Get a feel for old-school Cartagena at Viajero Cartagena Hostel, set inside a revamped 19th-century house in the walled city. Start every day with our free breakfast before strolling into the historic centre to take in churches and museums, cool coffee shops and local handicrafts. Right outside our door, rainbow-painted colonial buildings line the streets and flowers cascade from our neighbours' balconies. Snap some shots to share with friends back home and then send them using our free Wi-Fi.

We're just 10 minutes by taxi from Rafael Núñez International Airport – don't be afraid to get into some friendly haggling with your driver over the price! Or you can hop on a local bus and be with us in 25 minutes. Once you're here, the historic city centre is just a 10-minute walk away. You can easily reach major attractions like the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas (15 minutes on foot), or stick around the walled city for local hangouts like Plaza Fernandez Madrid.

Rooms and Dorms

You'll get free linen and air con whether you go for a dorm or a private room. Lockable chests keep your valuables safe while you sleep and when you're out on the town. For extra luxury, book a private double or a large dorm with an en-suite bathroom. Women have the choice of bunking with the guys in a mixed dorm or taking one of our female-only rooms instead.

Extras and activities

Grab a drink at our outdoor, on-site bar or flop down in front of a box set in our comfy TV room. There's no better place for an afternoon nap than a hammock on one of the two patios – and the outdoor terrace is also where you'll find local dance lessons (think: salsa, bachata, champeta), open mic nights and games of beer pong. Give your favourite T-shirts a well needed wash with our laundry service so you can keep wearing them every day!

I really enjoyed my stay at Viajero. The location was great, within the walled city walking distance from main attractions. The staff was very friendly and helped organized outings. There were activities going on through the hostel as well. They cleaned the rooms and bathrooms/showers daily. Would definitely stay here again.

Great social hostel. However, keep in mind, some of the locations to stay in are not in the actual hostel, but in a building about 10 buildings down on the street (which I stayed in).

Good staff. Room A/C could be better. Bathrooms have no A/C so it's very hot!

Rooms are nice, the hostel itself is huge and gorgeous but the activities could be better. Many travelers but not so many socializing activities.

Great location - 2 min walk to the clock tower in the Old City. Good kitchen facilities to cook your own meals - be careful with food in the fridge though - I had food stolen from me and also had my food thrown out by the cleaners which was annoying. Staff were helpful and always happy to answer any questions I had about the city. Rooms had good A/C and showers were always clean when I went to use that at any time of the day.

    Very Good

location and AC on point! Staff were average, wish the hostel had more events or made more an effort to get people together but i guess this hasn’t happened anywhere on my trip in Colombia. They have a bar so you can’t bring your own alcohol in. Some common areas available. Just the crowd staying there when I was there was a bit odd and antisocial. Not my favorite but I’d probably stay there again if I had to. There’s better social hostels out there for a solo traveler.

If all you need is a place to sleep and shower, it's amazing, really clean rooms, comfortable beds, A/C on point, and the bathrooms and showers are great! Unfortunately the staff is not the greatest. Marta was rude, uninformative, unhelpful, and gave us the wrong information about the ferry docks (they told us it was an hour away by car, it was actually a 10 minute walk at most). Also, no atmosphere, mostly millennial's sitting solo on their phones. Not the best experience :/.

Rubbish hostel. Staff not friendly and no atmosphere at the place, not much eye contact between people. Showers and wifi were good though, and rooms were cool at night.

Staff was very unfriendly during my stay here. There were times I’d be waiting outside the door ringing the bell and I could see the staff through the window ignoring me until they finished texting. I also had a confusion about the cost of something I purchased and one staff member acted like I was an idiot and didn’t apologize at all for the confusion. And the door to the room I stayed in squeaked very loudly so everytime someone came in or out everyone would wake up. Not clean either.
