Overview

Settle into island life at El Viajero San Andrés Hostel. Watch the waves from our rooftop bar, or ask our tours desk about surfing lessons or boat trips around the island. Each of our five floors is decorated with a unique theme and every one has a space to chill or party. Crash out in our lounge and stream a movie on the free Wi-Fi, or take a salsa class in our nightclub. In the mornings, fill up on our free breakfast before starting all over again.

Location

You’ll find us a 10-minute stroll away from Playa Spratt Bight, which is surrounded by bars, restaurants and supermarkets. If water sports are more your thing, head to Playa Principal, a similar distance away on foot. You can also jump in a taxi to see the famous cave at Cayo Rocoso – a 12-minute journey. We reckon we're up there with some of Colombia's easiest airport transfers – we’re just a 10-minute walk from the airport! When you land, walk onto Avenida Las Américas via the airport carpark, continue past the baseball field, then turn right onto Carrera 6. Take the next left turn onto Calle 5, and carry on until you reach Avenida 20 de Julio – our street.

Rooms and Dorms

Take a break from the heat in any of our mixed or female-only dorms – all are fitted with air con. Our dorms, twins and double rooms all have the added benefit of an en-suite, so you get a little extra privacy. Free linen is included in your stay, and we have under-bed lockers for your backpack – just remember a padlock.

I loved this place... air con a little chilly but blankets available and roof top terrace lots of fun. Reception is amazing and helped me so much with all sorts. Recommend a lot! Gracias a todos por todo lo que hicieron a hacerme enamorar de San Andrés!

Good location, clean bed with your own light and charging point! I only booked and stayed for one night and felt the atmosphere was nice but not too social! Unfortunately I had also been put in a room with someone who thought it was acceptable to p***o on the bathroom floor! The staff sorted it and showed me another bathroom, which is all they can do!

Only legit place to stay in San Andres. They charge a lot. If the price was lower it would be better. Really nice staff and half way decent breakfast. Top bar is fun.

The hostel let me check in late (4am) which was good. Some of the staff were great but some a bit unhelpful e.g. with suggestions of things to do on the island. The bar could have opened a bit earlier (only open from 10), but once it was open there was a really fun atmosphere. It's a party place; getting an early night would be hard, the bar is pretty noisy. Breakfast was good.

The hostel was decent, but very average. It’s located in a very noisy area a bit of a walk to the main beach. For the price I would have expected more. The only real attraction is the social aspect which is a plus, but at night if you are in any common area the reception sends the guard to tell you to go to bed. The hostel isn’t dirty, but I would say it could use some updating as it is a bit dingy. I will say they cleaned often though. I would probably stay somewhere in a better for price.

Wifi didn’t work, air con was spotty and they would only turn it down to 24, inside door handle kept breaking off so you’d be trapped until you could fiddle with it to put it back on. We told staff this and they told us nothing was broken and wouldn’t even look. They also have a daily event board posted. We were there 4 nights and not one of the events followed thorough. This hostel only offers somewhere to sleep and nothing else.

Bathrooms were very dirty with no soap or shower mat, there is a cleaner bathroom downstairs but the lock on the door doesn’t work. Hostel charged us more than the website price we were told we would be paying after booking because they don’t include the website commission in the price (it should be included) Air conditioning was never set to a low enough temperature (26 at night was so hot the whole dorm was complaining) They don’t give you a key to your dorm so doors are left open

Very disappointing stay at Viajero. The property has good security and is in a decent location, however, the rooms and bathroom were filthy and not cleaned regularly. On our second day we had to clean our dorm room ourselves, as staff had ignored 3 vodka bottles, multiple beer cans and chip packets on the floor. Property is too expensive for the poor facilities and disappointing breakfast. Would not recommend staying here.

I was excited to arrive at El Viajero because it seemed to be THE place to stay for backpackers. Unfortunately, I had an awful experience. The hostel is a dirty tower block with no colour, magic or vibe. On top of that, there's a sandy slime on the floors of the dorms, which themselves are dull. But, never have I come across such unhelpful staff in all my travels. They seem nice initially, but they're cold and generally very unhelpful. Moved to Mahalo House and having a great time here!
