    Superb

Read full review: this hostel is highly remote, on a bumpy road with mosquitoes and frogs making noise at night, so if you don’t have any of those as your preference don’t stay here. On the other hand if you want solitude and love to stay in nature I highly recommend booking a night or more here. The best part of this place is the person who works there Brian! He made my experience better than I expected and showed the true definition of Aloha.

    Superb

The hostel is basically composed of rooms in the first floor and an open concept living room/kitchen in the second with a big porch. Everything was spotless when ever I stayed and it looked like it was kept in pristine conditions. The only thing that I didn't like about this hostel is that the road to get to it is really, really bad. It is listed as being near Hilo, but it is definitely closer to Mountain View. It is in a position where you are away from everything even with a car.

    Fabulous

NICE FOLKS, GOOD PARKING, GOOD SHOWERS, NICE LOCALE, 20 MINUTE DRIVE FROM VOLCANO PARK, NEAR BEAUTIFUL ZOO, HELPFUL STAFF. FOR TOWELS, WE WERE GIVEN A HANDFUL OF WASHCLOTHS. THEY WORKED, WITH ONLY A LITTLE PLANNING. (WE HAD THE CHEAPEST ROOMS. ) A FEW MUDDY ROADS GETTING THERE, BUT NOT FOR VERY FAR. GOOD PIZZA IN TOWN. WE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH OUTSIDE NOISES. OUR ROOM WAS FAIRLY QUIET. THE COTS WERE COMFORTABLE. I WILL PROBABLY GO THERE AGAIN.

    Fabulous

The administrator John is super kind and helpful, always there for anything with the best predisposition. It's in the rainforest so very quiet and peaceful and with everything you need, the ambiance is fantastic. There's an amazing guide that hangs around the hostel, he lives in the Island so he knows all the hidden places, when and where to go. Philip can show you the island or can help you planning your trip. I definitely recommend spending a couple of days with him.

    Very Good

Would definitely recommend a car to get to this location, the last half mile to the hostel is a dirt road with a lot of potholes so just be careful when you’re driving. Hostel was nice, you are sort of in the rainforest so you hear a lot of noises at night but it could be soothing. Room smelled a bit musty, perhaps because it had just rained? Also, I was requested to pay in cash so you might just wanna have cash handy.

    Good

We booked 2n at the Hostel, we were welcomed by friendly staff, of which 1 smelled of alcohol. We were “kicked out” due to a school group being there and them not liking strangers on property with them. So we were “upgraded” to a 1/1 home which is currently renovated somewhere between kurtistown and Mountain View, in the middle of nowhere. It wasn’t the cleanest but they were only able to make it usable within an hour so for that it was okay. The property is definitely nicer then the hostel.

    Good

Way out there. You need a car to get there, preferably one that can go over pretty rugged and bumpy terrain. There are no signs advertising that you are close or even arrived. The neighbors are pretty secretive and keep to themselves. The first night we were there, they had a leak in their catchment system, which meant no water for anything, including flushing. If there is no rain, they will also probably be low on water. After that it was ok. The building is new and the staff was accommodating.

You get what you pay for. The location is pretty remote with unpaved roads. Had I been by myself I would have definitely turned around and left because there weren’t really road signs or lights. The place wasn’t dirty but it also didn’t feel exactly clean. The staff was very nice and answered our calls and questions promptly. Being in the middle of nowhere did lend to peaceful, quiet nights which were nice. There were lots of mosquitoes so definitely pack bug spray.
