I called it, the little paradise. It is peace and quiet, clean and really beautiful. The staff is so nice, they told us everything about the island.

A bit hard to get there, a vehicle is required since it's located in the middle of the forest. But once you get there it's super charming and the staff is great. I was there for 3 nights with my girlfriend. You can hear a lot of cocky frogs, crickets and other small animals at night so people who don't like nature, don't bother. We had a great time there and met cool people too. I definitely recommend for an original, clean, well furnished and not expensive hostel.

This pretty new hostel was a great place to stay. Great price compared to others. Friendly, helpful owner operator and staff. Location is a little out of the way but having a rental car made it better to stay there than in the city of Hilo... Quiet , I was traveling with a female friend and we had a nice private room with upper, lower bunk beds right next to the very Clean shower room. Nice Kitchen, common area ,I would stay there again and recommend Volcano Rainforest Hostel to others.

The hostel is basically composed of rooms in the first floor and an open concept living room/kitchen in the second with a big porch. Everything was spotless when ever I stayed and it looked like it was kept in pristine conditions. The only thing that I didn't like about this hostel is that the road to get to it is really, really bad. It is listed as being near Hilo, but it is definitely closer to Mountain View. It is in a position where you are away from everything even with a car.

I had a great stay here! Everyone was really kind and welcoming. It's a very laid back hostel, there was a bit of building work happening while I was there on the kitchen, but I was still able to use the great out door kitchen. The roads leading to the hostel are pretty bumpy but take them slow and you'll be fine. Thanks again!

I booked two nights and added a third night for more Adventure with people that I met at the hostel. It was a blast. The 6 bed room was small. I might consider a private room if funds allow.

    Fabulous

Well furnished with modern bathrooms and a nice communal areas. Lovely location in the middle of lots of lush green rain forests, however the roads leading to the hostel are like a dirt track with big dips and flooding so a larger car is probably best to get there. The kitchen was a bit badly equipped with certain basic missing and the staff were almost non existent, but having said that the place had a nice, chilled out vibe and we were very happy with our stay.

    Very Good

Would definitely recommend a car to get to this location, the last half mile to the hostel is a dirt road with a lot of potholes so just be careful when you’re driving. Hostel was nice, you are sort of in the rainforest so you hear a lot of noises at night but it could be soothing. Room smelled a bit musty, perhaps because it had just rained? Also, I was requested to pay in cash so you might just wanna have cash handy.

You get what you pay for. The location is pretty remote with unpaved roads. Had I been by myself I would have definitely turned around and left because there weren’t really road signs or lights. The place wasn’t dirty but it also didn’t feel exactly clean. The staff was very nice and answered our calls and questions promptly. Being in the middle of nowhere did lend to peaceful, quiet nights which were nice. There were lots of mosquitoes so definitely pack bug spray.

After driving for miles over horrendously pot holed dirt roads I arrived. There was no sign idicating this was the place and no people were anywhere to be seen. No signs showing an office nor any instructions on how to reach anyone. I walked around the entire building and found no one. There were, however, what sounded like at least a dozen dogs somewhere out back yapping frantically. I returned to my car and booked alternate lodgings in Hilo.
