Hokondo Waikiki Beachside Hostel is a cool mix of hostel and hotel. Think balconies in every room and memory foam mattresses, but with a clubhouse vibe. Our friendly staff are around 24 hours a day – ask them anything! Start by checking who we've got lined up to perform at our next live music event on the outdoor terrace. If you've splashed out on private surf lessons, get back on budget by cooking cheap eats in the hostel kitchen. We'll help you out with free breakfast. You're also welcome to join our weekly meditation sessions in the common room.

From the airport, catch the 19 or 20 bus direct to the centre of Waikiki in an hour and a half. Get off at the Waikiki Beach Marriott and walk toward the beach, and we're on the second road on the left. The hostel's just a 5-minute walk from Waikiki Beach, where you can watch the pro surfers from a lively beach bar. Just a few steps from our front door, you'll find the shops and restaurants of bustling Kalakaua Avenue. After a day on the beach, we like to come here for retail therapy and a few beers!

Rooms and Dorms

Book a mixed or female-only dorm, or a private room with kitchen facilities – all rooms have an en-suite. If you're looking for privacy but still want the hostel atmosphere, choose one of our smaller, semi-private dorms. Either way, all options come with free bed linen and access to a storage locker.

Extras and activities

Grab a snack from the café and catch up with your social media on the free Wi-Fi. Don't worry if you haven't got cash, there's an onsite ATM; perfect if you're craving a sugar fix from the vending machine on the patio. There's also a mini-supermarket for snacks. Surfing not your thing? Rent one of our bikes for a casual ride through town or borrow one of our board games.

I only had one issue while staying at this hostel, which the staff addressed quickly. The proximity to the beach was fantastic.

Stayed for a week, enjoyed the location. Very central to many tourist sites, as well as close to a ton of bus routes. Would stay here again! Staff were helpful and friendly.

Friendly people , water was nice and warm. Seems they cleaned the room everytime someone left which is good. Right next to a moped rental store, abc , and beach.

Great location! In between Aston and the Marriott, where the tours pick up. ABC store a few feet away, a hole in the wall food café next door, scooter rental by the café and of course the beach a block away. Common area is clean. BYOB. Very loud at night. Room was great. Electronic waterproof key fob. Bed is a big uncomfortable. VERY LOUD area of Waikiki. A lot of homeless in the area, but still felt safe. Very hard working house keeping. Great for older guests.

Basic hostel that offers some of the lowest prices in Waikiki. I chose one of the non-renovated rooms, which was spacious and tidy, but again provided just essentials. The hostel is quite large, would be nice to have organised activities/meet ups for people that want to explore together - perhaps it was because I only stayed one night, but I didn't see any of those happening. Big yay for the waterproof wristband key :)

Super dirty and the lockers they have in the rooms are “per use” lockers. The dudes who took care of my bags even after I checked out just so I could walk to grab a bite to eat saved this hostel for me personally. The reason why’d you sign up for this hostel is for the location which is prime.

This is the worst hostel I’ve ever been to, I would have had a better time in a jail cell, at least the jail wouldn’t have roaches everywhere

The rooms are dirty. The cleaning done daily isn’t enough and the maintenance of the property either. The A/C is loud that it’s impossible to sleep. The Staff isn’t helping. The hostel is supposed to sell towels which they never had, and for a hostel it isn’t okay. Showers was broken, had to remove the head and had water coming straight from a pipe. Wouldn’t recommend at all.

Great location.. older Caucasian lady and youngish Caucasian man with beard were probably the rudest people we’ve experience.. he was no help and was quick to think we were trying to lie... don’t come here. You won’t get the Hawai’i experience just rude employees..
