Property Description

A safe haven in the middle of the metropolis: We took a traditional brick building with roots going back to the 1800s and set a new standard for hostel life in the UK.
What used to be sailors' lodgings in the olden days is now a hostel satisfying all needs of the modern traveler. With great attention to detail, we have created a hostel in London that celebrates the legacy of our historic building.
Old oak that was previously part of sturdy ships and churches is now immortalized in our furniture throughout the house. The pints you drink here will be served on a bar made from 500-year-old wood.

But as comfortable as our hostel might be, London's calling - and London's call is hard to ignore, given our location:
Our Wombat's City Hostel is situated in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, right next to famous Tower Bridge and Tower of London, charming markets, authentic pubs, and plenty of other historic sights.
A short walk will see you in the trendy Borough of Shoreditch with vibrant street art, pulsing nightlife at Hoxton Square and Old Street and finally Brick Lane, where some of the best curries outside of India can be found.
All other hotspots in London are easily accessible by public transport: The Underground- and DLR-Stations Aldgate East and Tower Bridge are just a stone's throw away.

After a long and exciting day in London, our hostel awaits you with a cozy courtyard, spacious lobby and womBAR. Here you can unwind and enjoy our reliably unexpected offers.
All rooms are equipped with ensuite bathrooms and private lockers.

Included as always - our Wombat's basics:
- bedding
- WiFi
- our own Wombat's city maps
- the womBAR for never-ending parties & WomDollar discount on your drinks
- a guest kitchen open to all who want to cater to their own culinary needs
- 24/7 Reception
- safe luggage storage
- rentables (umbrellas, hairdryers, adapters: everything an avid traveler could possibly need)
- coin-operated laundry facilities (washing and crying ... oops, sorry about the typo, of course we mean drying), so you can re-vitalize your clothes ;)

Our famous Tasty Brekkie buffet ensures you have enough energy for your exciting day in London. You can buy your tickets for a small fee at reception.

This hostel was wonderful! Very safe, you need your room card to access every door. Very close to the underground station, only like an 8 minute walk. And the bathrooms were very big and spacious, and are cleaned every day!

Love the fact that the lockers in your room are secured using your key card. The kitchen is nice and you've all the cutlery and oven too. Would have loved it even better if there was a water filter. The bar is nice and there are games. Open till 1:30 am with the common space open to half 2. Check out and check in is a breeze. Got to know , you can ask for fresh towels as the reception so you don't need to dry them each time. The dorm beds are creaky so climbing up into them at night is loud.

I'm a Solo female traveler from Canada. This place made me feel very safe and welcome. I loved the location, it wasn't right in the main downtown area which is actually nice as you are away from the bulk of tourists. Train station is a 10 minute walk which made transportation so convenient. Room was very clean and one of the best I've ever stayed in. Key card access to the room which also locks your locker was an added level of safety that I liked as well. Overall, I highly recommend!

The rooms are very clean. The only problem is the location— it’s a 10 minute walk from the nearest tube stop which gets a bit annoying after a while. Other than that, great hostel! The breakfast is quite value for money too.

Overall, wombats was a good place to stay for the money you pay. after reading reviews i was ready to be wowed but can't say i was. 10 min walk to tower hill underground station which is nice. I liked the ensuite bathrooms rather than sharing w/ a whole floor. good water pressure room was clean enough, though i did have to request new sheets as my first set was actually nasty. bar downstairs is cool. some staff seemed completely uninterested in the guests, others were pleasant. would book again

    Very Good

    12 May 2022
It was very decent but 1. the mattress looked sort of dirty 2. Someone in in our room was very messy, left trash and cups with food on the sink and for two days the cleaning lady didn’t take them out 3. The cleaning lady and several staff people walked in while we were getting ready and were very rude 4. Speaking of rude, on our second night we got there around 2am and our keys had been deactivated, when we checked in they didn’t charge us, so they decided to do it at that time.

    Very Good

Good for security and belongings and shower facilities was good too. This place during my time was filled with a lot of school groups. There wasn't any community vibe or hostel activities that made it easy to meet people and that's what it overall lacked - you didn't want to spend any more time there beyond sleep. The bed mattresses are also quite used and old and myself and another roommate ended up with sore backs from their overall deterioration.

A pretty disappointing trip to a highly regarded hostel. Upon arrival staff spoke one word answers, stain in mattress was never addressed. Atmosphere was okay. Everyone kept to themselves expect later in the evening. Met some cool people. Only reason I would come back would be that the bartenders were the friendliest people
