Hostelworld says

Wombats City Hostel was rated the most popular in Munich at the 2017 Hoscars and we're not surprised. This friendly hostel offers a lot of nice extras to guests, such as parking in the basement, a fully-stocked bar and a frequently praised all-you-can-eat breakfast. We particularly like the hammocks and bean bags in their glass-roofed courtyard, where travellers can relax even during poor weather. They're located just 10 minutes' walk from the Oktoberfest and most sights in the city centre, as well as near the U-Bahn and international trains at the Hauptbahnhof.

Property Description

Is it the private rooms with their generous terraces? Or maybe it's the winter garden with our indoor-courtyard to hang out in; somewhere to unwind in a cozy atmosphere underneath real trees?

Is it the fact that all our rooms come with an ensuite bathroom, the legendary womBAR or our impeccable cleanliness?
Those are probably just some of the reasons why our Wombat's City Hostel Munich Hauptbahnhof has previously won the Hoscars for most popular Hostel in Munich.

Another thing adding to our popularity is our location:
The famous Wiesn hosting the even more famous Octoberfest is only a 10 minute walk away and the old town is closer still, perfect for exploring on foot. Traveller and local favourite Stachus (Karlsplatz), with its bustling pedestrian shopping streets, is quite literally around the corner.
All other sights Munich has to offer are easily accessible as well! Thanks to our proximity to the main train station the access to public transport is unlike anywhere else in town.
The Englischer Garten is easy to reach - one of the oldest parks in Europe, twice the size of New York's Central Park, perfect for refueling after an exciting day in the city.

Speaking of refueling - Beer! We are in Munich after all, and the Englischer Garten has no less than four massive beer gardens.

Included as always - our Wombat's basics:
- bedding
- WiFi
- our own Wombat's city maps
- the womBAR for never-ending parties & WomDollar discount on your drinks
- a guest kitchen open to all who want to cater to their own culinary needs
- 24/7 Reception
- safe luggage storage
- rentables (umbrellas, hairdryers, adapters; everything an avid traveler could possibly need)
- coin-operated laundry facilities (washing and crying ... oops, sorry about the typo, of course we mean drying), so you can re-vitalize your clothes ;)

Our famous Tasty Brekkie buffet ensures you have enough energy for your exciting day in Munich. You can buy your tickets for a small fee at reception.

We had a nice stay. Very central. Nice room. Individual lockers in room. Also luggage room to store bags before & after check-in. Nice kitchen, 1 fridge out of order though, so the second fridge was jammed full. Check out is at 10am. At 9.50am we came back up to the room after having breakfast, to quickly brush our teeth and grab our bags. The cleaning lady was already in our room & had thrown my friends bag outside in the bin. This was not good enough. Check out is at 10am and we were on time.

Definitely an older hostel, the keycard system that have us really cool though. Staff was super friendly. I did my laundry there and my clothes were clean and dry at the end. The bar was a good time. There’s no AC in the rooms though, so I was sweating like crazy and had a ton of trouble sleeping. Bed comfort was very mid. Not bad but not great.

Couldn’t ask for a better location from Central station! Literally 2 minutes away! We lucked out with great room mates for our stay. And the common areas are great for meeting people. The kitchen facilities are decent. But a little snug and was congested often. I ate later. No big deal. Staff were friendly. The bartender a little over worked but still had a solid personality. I’d recommend staying here. And if I’m fortunate to return to Munich I’ll book in again

It's a good hostel. But the shower in my room had almost no pressure, like the water just dripped out. A good shower is one of those little things that is important. I also paid for late check out but they didn't make note of it so my room key expired earlier than it should have. And one of refrigerators in the kitchen was not working. It's a generally good hostel and friendly environment but they need to improve maintenance of the facilities and pay more attention to the small details.

Great location for rain station, room was big and lockers were good, the only issue was that it was super hot in the room. We could only crack the window, and there was a very small fan but it just blew hot air and of course didn’t reach those on the upper bunks.

A usual hostel vibe. Really big place so plenty of options to meet people if that's what you're into. Facilities were all nice only downside was no airconditioning in the rooms. They were very hot and in middle of summer was quite uncomfortable. All in all a good place to stay

Listed under the general facilities for this hostel is “air conditioning”. Please note that they only have A/C in the common bar lounge area, not in the rooms. I feel this hostel should note this more prominently on their page, or remove air conditioning as one of their listed facilities. Other than that this was a pretty standard youth hostel. I would have enjoyed my stay more if I hadn’t felt lied to about the A/C.

Noisy inside and outside hostel at night. Loud music from bar after midnight. Kitchen for guest use looked good. Some areas lacked ventilation and were unpleasant and stuffy. A/C only in certain areas. The night staff was nice, but the staff at check in and check out seemed stressed and unhappy, and were not friendly. Breakfast offerings were good (not included but reasonably priced), the the breakfast staff was nice. It is a handy location, but sketchy and loud on the street.

Location is great for the main train station, about a 20 minute walk into the town centre however, where the hostel is situated did not feel like the safest area. All interactions with the staff were hostile and not accommodating. The room itself was spacious however, there was no aircon so it got incredibly warm. Good kitchen facilities and communal area however, not much of an atmosphere.

Wombat's City Hostel Munich Hauptbahnhof says

We're right next to the Old Town so all the attractions are close! The one place we definitely recommend that guests visit is the Hofbräuhaus, obviously. That's why everyone comes to town - but we'd recommend not spending a lot of time with a tourist trap. Munich also has one of Europe's oldest public parks, the Englischer Garten. It's twice the size of New York's Central Park, has a lake, a standing wave for surfers, a nude beach and no less than four huge beer gardens.
The main age group of our guests is 19 to 29, like in almost every other hostel. In contrast to these, though, we don't only attract one set of people. Quite a lot of our guests don't usually stay in hostels but give it a try at wombat's because we've been recommended. We've seen couples in their 50s, or families, and they were just as satisfied as the 19-year-old American college kid who spends most of his time, err, getting wasted at the hostel bar. The highlight of the Hostel is the 'Wintergarten', an air-conditioned glass-roofed patio with great design furniture to hang out and chillax.
