Hostelworld says

We like the very central location of Wombats City Hostel Budapest, just a block from Andrássy utca and five minutes from a metro station serving three lines going to Buda, the airport stop and the three main train stations. This friendly, clean hostel opened in 2012 in a former hotel. It features spacious ensuite rooms with free air conditioning, free welcome drinks for guests and a budget-friendly all-you-can-eat breakfast with yoghurt, fruit and good bread.

*Please note: due to the pandemic, our bar remains closed and we aren't serving breakfast at the moment.

Cleanliness is something not to be taken for granted, and we take it very seriously. We’ve even won the 'cleanest hostel worldwide' award multiple times.

By travellers for travellers

We have travelled the world ourselves - so we know firsthand what travelling is like and what you expect from us. We care about you and listen to your feedback.

We provide an inviting, safe atmosphere for you to retreat to at the end of the day. After you've been on the road, seeing sights and walking until your feet ache, it's good to know you've got a comfy place waiting for you at our hostel, where you can chill, drink beer, exchange travel wisdom, and make new friends.

Among all these extras and details, there’s one thing that makes Wombat’s truly stand out. It’s the hostel atmosphere that we all love: travellers sharing not only a space, but an experience.

Overall very good hostel. Especially the location was just perfect. However, the walls are quite thin and therefore you can hear you neighbors very well.

Housekeeping did not clean bathroom. There was broken beer bottle I had to remind reception desk twice, In case a someone might accidentally step on it. But to be reminded twice!!! Beware its a party hostel, people drunk at 5:00 am. Sometimes as a hostel there must be limitation of what other people are doing, and think about the safety of the rest of the guest. Safety of the guest must be priority, not the drunk guest. Hope management will not lose sight on the importance of safety. M

Awful experience. Staff at check in were not helpful & didn’t give us any information on extras or facilities. Kitchen was so dirty. Bathroom smelt like someone had died but staff said that’s normal as the pipes are old? Only one washer/dryer working & out of order signs everywhere (lift, washers, vending). Broken shower not fixed during our stay. Bar closed - but running pub crawls? So loud at night, impossible to sleep. People smoke in the rooms and the smell carries throughout the halls.

Wombat's The City Hostel Budapest says

I think what's really unique about us is that this was a pretty good hotel before we upgraded it to a Wombats , so it comes with some amenities you don´t typically find in a hostel, like really big rooms, a/c, nice en suite facilities (even with hairdryers) and amply dimensioned common areas. It´s the biggest hostel in town, so guaranteed never boring. And the house is run by a really, really enthusiastic team.
We're one block from Andrassy utca (Budapest's version of the Champs Elysse), the main cathedral is just around the corner and the history city centre is a ten-minute walk away. Walk in the other direction and you're in the middle of the most lively nightlife area. Personally I recommend hitting Corvintetö, a superb rooftop club not far away. The langos shop next to the entrance is ridiculously good (and cheap), too.
Most of our guests are twentysomethings. Budapest offers excellent nightlife and is very cheap, so it attracts a lot of people who intend to indulge in it.
