Hostelworld says

Wombats City Hostel was rated the most popular in Munich at the 2017 Hoscars and we're not surprised. This friendly hostel offers a lot of nice extras to guests, such as parking in the basement, a fully-stocked bar and a frequently praised all-you-can-eat breakfast. We particularly like the hammocks and bean bags in their glass-roofed courtyard, where travellers can relax even during poor weather. They're located just 10 minutes' walk from the Oktoberfest and most sights in the city centre, as well as near the U-Bahn and international trains at the Hauptbahnhof.

*Please note: due to the pandemic, we aren't serving breakfast at the moment.

Property Description

Wombat’s The City Hostel Munich Hauptbahnhof is definitely the place to stay if you want to experience all that Munich has to offer. We're just a stone's throw from the main train station, which also serves as the major public transportation hub. It’s not much further to the old town (a mere 5-minute stroll) and we're also within close walking distance of the famous Oktoberfest grounds.

Wombat’s The City Hostel is proud to be one of the most experienced hostel chains (over 20 years of hostel expertise!) with a history of award-winning properties all over Europe: Budapest, London, Munich, and Vienna.

Wombat’s The City Hostel offers safe, clean, quality accommodation in either (1) a spacious dorm room with an ensuite bathroom and individual lockers for personal belongings or (2) a private room with two twin beds/one queen bed and private bathroom. At Wombat’s Munich, we're especially proud of our air-conditioned, glass-roofed courtyard with real trees!

Included

+ bedding
+ fast WIFI in the entire building
+ our own Wombat’s city maps
+ fully-equipped guest kitchen (plus: free food section, including free noodles and rice)
+ luggage room
+ welcome drink

Additional features

+ our lively womBar serves affordable drinks/cocktails/snacks and offers happy hours and regular events
+ coin-operated laundry facilities (washing and crying – oops, sorry about the typo, of course we mean drying), so you can re-vitalize your clothes ;)

Cleanliness is something not to be taken for granted, and we take it very seriously. We’ve even won the 'cleanest hostel worldwide' award multiple times.

Among all these extras and details, there’s one thing that makes Wombat’s truly stand out. It’s the hostel atmosphere that we all love: travellers sharing not only a space, but an experience.

Your stay is bound to be a memorable one!

Great Hostel, great prices. 6 shared bedroom was great. Very clean, great communal area and generous kitchen that offered left over food for those who were hungry. Felt secure, staff answered all my noobie general questions about travel and cultural information. Lights out at communal area at a reasonable time. Vending machine downstairs for snacks, drinks and bottles of alcohol. Location was right next to a Lidl with easy access to underground. Will be returning if I need a hostel again.

The staff went above and beyond to solve a problem I had! I had a wonderful experience here- there are social areas, but the rooms are quiet and clean. It is literally seconds from the train station and near many restaurants, great for an overnight stop waiting for a train/plane but also for longer stays to enjoy the city!

The best place for a one night stay! I came to stay for one night between my train from Austria and my flight to Sweden and I liked it so much that it became my spot for this kind of connection trip so I did it many other times. The location is perfect, super close to the train station, the beds are comfortable and the atmosphere is great, with a nice bar where you can meet a lot of nice people for your short stay in town. I’ll probably be there many times this season. Come and say hi!

The location was fantastic! The staff are so nice and there are activities and things to do! The bathroom is a little small- nothing bad just a little small and you can hear pretty easily when someone is using it. Overall this place is great and I recommend it!

Got a lot of things going for it: facilities, staff, cleanliness. The location was pretty good, right next to the bus and train stations and only a 15 min walk to the main city square. It was hard to meet people at first, but through the walking tour I was able to make some friends.

Wombat’s was everything I needed while in Munich. My train there was cancelled and the staff were happy to accommodate my extremely late arrival, which was greatly appreciated. The layout was beautiful, with a large covered courtyard and nice bar area. The location is right next to the main train station as well. The drinks at the bar were a bit pricey, and the shower in my room wavered between scalding hot and freezing cold at random, but overall, I had a great time here. Would recommend.

Great social hostel; shared spaces are lovely, the bar is fun and everyone I met was very friendly. Rooms are clean and good sized, bathroom a bit small but more than worth it. Loved being so close to the train station, and a quick walk to the city centre. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Loved it!

Good location near the Train Station but there are many people outside practically yelling all night making it hard to sleep even with the windows shut. Not very clean, there was a lot of stains around my bed of food(I hope). But not super dirty or anything, just wouldn’t rate this place very high and only recommend for a few nights at most and if you need to use the train station a lot. A lot better then my experience at Wombat’s in Vienna, but overall a pretty mediocre hostel.

Wombat's The City Hostel Munich Hauptbahnhof says

We're right next to the Old Town so all the attractions are close! The one place we definitely recommend that guests visit is the Hofbräuhaus, obviously. That's why everyone comes to town - but we'd recommend not spending a lot of time with a tourist trap. Munich also has one of Europe's oldest public parks, the Englischer Garten. It's twice the size of New York's Central Park, has a lake, a standing wave for surfers, a nude beach and no less than four huge beer gardens.
The main age group of our guests is 19 to 29, like in almost every other hostel. In contrast to these, though, we don't only attract one set of people. Quite a lot of our guests don't usually stay in hostels but give it a try at wombat's because we've been recommended. We've seen couples in their 50s, or families, and they were just as satisfied as the 19-year-old American college kid who spends most of his time, err, getting wasted at the hostel bar. The highlight of the Hostel is the 'Wintergarten', an air-conditioned glass-roofed patio with great design furniture to hang out and chillax.
