Hostelworld says

Wombats City Hostel was rated the most popular in Munich at the 2017 Hoscars and we're not surprised. This friendly hostel offers a lot of nice extras to guests, such as parking in the basement, a fully-stocked bar and a frequently praised all-you-can-eat breakfast. We particularly like the hammocks and bean bags in their glass-roofed courtyard, where travellers can relax even during poor weather. They're located just 10 minutes' walk from the Oktoberfest and most sights in the city centre, as well as near the U-Bahn and international trains at the Hauptbahnhof.

*Please note: due to the pandemic, our bar remains closed and we aren't serving breakfast at the moment.

The Hauptbahnhof (main train station) is a five-minute walk away, so we're easy to reach if you're coming by train, whether from another city or the airport on the S1 or S8 lines. Jump on the U-Bahn (underground) to get across the city quickly, and you'll be a 15-minute walk from the main bus station too. A short stroll lands you in the old town, where you'll find Hofbräuhaus, the largest beer hall in Munich (it seats 5,000 people!). If you're here for Oktoberfest it's just a 10-minute walk away.

Rooms and Dorms

We're serious about security. Our 24/7 reception means you can check in at any time, even if your flight's delayed. We'll give you a smart card to access the front and room doors, individual floors and lockers. Our mixed and female-only dorms, as well as private rooms, have comfy wooden beds or bunks. Every room has a private shower and toilet. Book a private double for a taste of the high life with your own terrace!

Extras and activities

We love handing out freebies: we'll give you bed linen, a welcome drink and access to the Wi-Fi, all on the house. When you fancy some downtime there are board games or pool on offer. Or if you're heading out, you can hire a bike from reception. Our self-made city maps will help you plan a route around the breweries and castles. Keen yogi? Wombats is a rare find. I have travelled extensively and have stayed in many hostels; wombats is the best of the best. The staff is very helpful; I love the wintergarden especially. It is bright and lots of natural light. I can't say enough good things about it.

Very calm atmosphere and graat facilities. Really sad theat they are closing in November due to not enough satys during Corona time. Perfect for if you want to work on your laptop but also very easy to meet new people. Munich is also just a very cool city with lots of art and a huge park. About a 20 minute walk into the city centre

From triple doorlock security, to fully equipped kitchen, to unexpectedly good hall music, this hostel keeps amazing me every day I stay here. The winter garden is very cozy, the covid protections make sense, the cleanliness is top notch. It really deserves its awards as one of the best hostels in Germany or even the world. As far as my experience goes it is the best.

Can’t say anything bad about this place. All the front desk staff members were friendly and helpful, the rooms were large and clean, and they definitely followed covid regulations. Will likely book again next time I’m in München.

This hostel is in a brilliant location and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The hostel itself is beautiful and they had the bar open in the evening to create some atmosphere despite the covid regulations. I had a fab stay!

During COVID they still had the kitchen open- big fan. I met some very lovely people during the stay that I’m intending to keep in contact with! Hot showers, nice common areas, well equipped kitchen. A little far from museums and whatnot but Munich is huge- it would be difficult to have everything be nearby.

Good hostel in a great location, the kitchen was lovely and clean. Only suggestion would be boxes for people to put thier food in the fridge. The room was nice and the beds very comfy with light and socket next to your head. We didn't pay for breakfast and just made our own. Staff were hit and miss some very friendly others acting like you inconvenience them but overall not to bad.

Wombat's The City Hostel Munich Hauptbahnhof says

We're right next to the Old Town so all the attractions are close! The one place we definitely recommend that guests visit is the Hofbräuhaus, obviously. That's why everyone comes to town - but we'd recommend not spending a lot of time with a tourist trap. Munich also has one of Europe's oldest public parks, the Englischer Garten. It's twice the size of New York's Central Park, has a lake, a standing wave for surfers, a nude beach and no less than four huge beer gardens.
The main age group of our guests is 19 to 29, like in almost every other hostel. In contrast to these, though, we don't only attract one set of people. Quite a lot of our guests don't usually stay in hostels but give it a try at wombat's because we've been recommended. We've seen couples in their 50s, or families, and they were just as satisfied as the 19-year-old American college kid who spends most of his time, err, getting wasted at the hostel bar. The highlight of the Hostel is the 'Wintergarten', an air-conditioned glass-roofed patio with great design furniture to hang out and chillax.
