Hostelworld says

Wombats City Hostel Berlin was rated the most popular in Berlin at the 2011 Hoscars and it's no wonder. They're located near Alexanderplatz, Museum Island and Prenzlauer Berg and have 'a warm family-like atmosphere', according to our guests, who also praise the staff, saying they're 'always nice and they have a bunch of tops to give us for everything in the city'. We like their seventh-floor bar, featuring happy hour specials and a rooftop terrace.

Property Description

Located in the most vibrating district of Berlin “Mitte”. Within 10 minutes walk from major transport hub Alexanderplatz. Enjoy a drink on our amazing rooftop terrace and have an incredible view over the whole city. A lot of popular restaurants as well as many fashion stores are just around the corner.

Enjoy and share a new view on Berlin and hostel culture. We are situated in the heart of Berlin, just a few steps from a metro station; the sights and a big nightlife area are within easy walking distance. This place surely gives you new perspectives on travelling - be it from inside or from our top recommendation, the womBar (with a large terrace) on the seventh floor. Enjoy your stay and indulge in a brand-new hostel experience!

We have apartments with double beds in a separate bedroom, with a kitchen/living room with a double-size sofa and private shower/toilet. That's about as extravagant as staying in a hostel will ever get. ;-)

There's five reasons why Wombats City Hostels became a destination by their own right:

Best Cleanliness:
Unfortunately, not something to take for granted in many other hostels, but we do take this seriously: we've won the 'Cleanest Hostel Worldwide' award. Twice.

Most Amenities:
We're centrally located and close to the trains and public transport. We have maximum security with smartcard access for the front door, the floors, the rooms and your locker.

All our rooms come with comfy wooden beds, private shower and toilet facilities plus lockers for your belongings. You'll get a free set of bed linen, a free welcome drink, free Wi-Fi (in the lobby), a guest kitchen for free use and our free self-made city map with all essential information about the going-ons in town.

We offer an all-you-can-eat breakfast, our lively womBAR serves cheap drinks and food, there's internet terminals, laundromats, 24 hours reception service, no curfew, no lockout and no stupid rules.

We're the hostel from travellers for travellers:
We have travelled the world ourselves - so we know first-hand what you're doing and what you expect from us. We care for you and we care for your feedback.

Best social atmosphere:
We make sure that you'll feel safe and welcome here. When you've been on the road all day long, seeing sights and walking and walking, it's cool to have a nice scene at the hostel where you can have some beers, talk and make friends. This will make your stay a memorable one! Many a traveller stayed quite a bit longer than primarily intended.

Wombats is not dirt cheap:
You may find an even cheaper place to crash in town, but none where you get more value for your money.

We're looking forward to welcoming you !

Great location, very close to alexanderplatz so easy to get around the city with the public transportation. Ari the bartender was super nice and the bar on the roof is really fun and great place to meet other guests. There is also a really good view of the city and it’s a nice place to start or end the night. There were lockers in the room that actually lock and the beds were pretty good—not the best I’ve had but definitely fine (worth it for the price). Great hostel!

WIFI SUCKED! Only worked in the lobby, but they had comfy lounging in there. Bathroom inside the room was so nice! No air though, so you had to leave the windows open to street traffic and it got noisy between the metro and the loud/drunk hostel guests hanging out outside. Breakfast was a little expensive, washer/dryers were broken. AWESOME rooftop space, definitely geared towards socializing... lots of games and happy hour too. Would stay again.

This hostel was in a fantastic location in downtown Berlin, walking distance to a lot of great areas. The atmosphere was also great, with a very reasonably priced bar, breakfast, and good common spaces. My only complaints are that the bed sheets didn't really fit on the bed, and the WIFI throughout the building was pretty terrible.

Great way to meet other solo backpackers. It’s a backpack hostel so don’t expect air conditioning or great WiFi (actually pretty bad in the individual rooms). Only real gripe was that the bathroom in my specific room smelt worse (unbearable) after the guy mopped it. I’m hoping it was just the last room to be cleaned so the water was dirty. I’ve had much worse conditions while traveling. Other than that it was clean, friendly, centrally located, and social. I would recommend

Would have been nice to have a toilet on the ground floor for when using the kitchen etc. Lockers could have been bigger. We kept the window open for ventilation but noisy traffic outside. Lovely roof top bar and free drinks voucher on arrival. Had to put your own sheets on the beds.

Over all I would recommend to stay here. Only two issues I had was my shower got clogged very quick and there was not a fully equipped kitchen. At one point people were waiting for others to finish their meals to eat their dinner to use their fork. No bowls, pizza cutter, etc, and little to no cutlery. Security is good and roof top bar is amazing 😃

    Very Good

Pretty good hostel. Centrally located, reasonably priced, and has a cool rooftop bar but nothing too notable about the atmosphere, especially for a solo traveler.

Spacious and clean rooms with pretty clean en-suites (though have a bit of mould in the showers) Good atmosphere to socialise up at the rooftop bar which had cheap drinks and great views. Just found every and any encounters we had with staff unpleasant. Was met with eyerolls and sass asking basic questions. Felt value for money wasn’t great.

Not a clean room, it needs maintanece. It's ok if you are going to stay for a few nights but I definetly wouldn't recommend it for more time. Also it's like a party hostel. The staff is very friendly.

Wombats City Hostel Berlin says

Wombats are party hostels but unlike most other party hostels we have decent rooms and friendly, professional service. We make sure we're not understaffed so we can take care of everyone's small and big concerns. We take cleanliness seriously-everyone expects not to find the waiter's hair in the soup and it should be the same at hostels.
We're strategically located just between the nightlife area and the tourist area, both only a short walk away. The one local sight that I especially recommend is a walk up to the cupola of the parliament building. Entrance is free, the structure is an amazing piece of architecture and the plenary hall is in plain view right under you. They do have a glass ceiling to avoid being spat upon, though…
Here at our hostel we have a roof terrace with a splendid view of Berlin's skyline. All of our hostels are fully wheelchair-accessible and each has a few specially equipped rooms. Klaus, CFO Wombats
