Hostelworld says

We like the very central location of Wombats City Hostel Budapest, just a block from Andrássy utca and five minutes from a metro station serving three lines going to Buda, the airport stop and the three main train stations. This friendly, clean hostel opened in 2012 in a former hotel. It features spacious ensuite rooms with free air conditioning, free welcome drinks for guests and a budget-friendly all-you-can-eat breakfast with yoghurt, fruit and good bread.

I came here with my friend and it was our first time in a hostel. Upon walking in, we loved the atmosphere of the place. They had a bar crawl and very, very cheap drinks and the bar. Our room was clean with the exception of the bathroom. The bathroom smelled like sewage so I probably went in there once. The location is right in the middle of everything so it took us only minutes to get to clubs and the ruin bars. We would definitely stay here again.

    Fabulous

Awesome stay! The rooms were great, plenty of options to do stuff straight from the lobby (cheap pub crawls or boat parties, free walking tours, etc.) and a convenient locked room to drop luggage off if you arrive in the city before check in. The only negative of the trip was some weird stinky liquid dripped out of a grocery bag in the luggage room onto my backpack... Just be mindful of your stuff and you'll have a fantastic stay!

Worth it for comfort, cleanliness and location. Didnt need to attend to the social scene as I had great roommates and met people the first night during the main pub crawl that starts at wombats. Easy to meet people and very nice vibe

    Fabulous

This location was excellent, made it very easy to get around. The staff were very laid back but still helpful. It was a great stay all around except that my room had a very strong unpleasant smell. I noticed it as soon as I walked in, it was emanating from the bathroom. The entire room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, however, so I knew it wasn’t a sanitation issue. But, the smell made for a very unpleasant room experience and even made it difficult for me to fall asleep at times.

Perfect location!! Very walkable to main attractions. Security is questionable as the front doors are open 24/7 with no buzzer or monitoring aside from a security screen at the reception. My 4 bed room was spacious - although cleanliness could be improved, i.e spills and markings on walls. The AC was broken in my room so it was really hot overnight. I let them know & received a free breakfast :) Saturday night atmosphere was great! Lots of people. Then weeknight was super quite.

Rooms and bathrooms were ok but could have been cleaner. Common area was quite nice however the kitchen was dirty and no oven. The whole place smelt of sewage which was very unpleasant. The location was good and the staff were alright. The downstairs toilets were disgusting, there was poop on the floor?

Wombats City Hostel Budapest says

I think what's really unique about us is that this was a pretty good hotel before we upgraded it to a Wombats , so it comes with some amenities you don´t typically find in a hostel, like really big rooms, a/c, nice en suite facilities (even with hairdryers) and amply dimensioned common areas. It´s the biggest hostel in town, so guaranteed never boring. And the house is run by a really, really enthusiastic team.
We're one block from Andrassy utca (Budapest's version of the Champs Elysse), the main cathedral is just around the corner and the history city centre is a ten-minute walk away. Walk in the other direction and you're in the middle of the most lively nightlife area. Personally I recommend hitting Corvintetö, a superb rooftop club not far away. The langos shop next to the entrance is ridiculously good (and cheap), too.
Most of our guests are twentysomethings. Budapest offers excellent nightlife and is very cheap, so it attracts a lot of people who intend to indulge in it. Klaus, CFO Wombats
