Hostelworld says

We like the very central location of Wombats City Hostel Budapest, just a block from Andrássy utca and five minutes from a metro station serving three lines going to Buda, the airport stop and the three main train stations. This friendly, clean hostel opened in 2012 in a former hotel. It features spacious ensuite rooms with free air conditioning, free welcome drinks for guests and a budget-friendly all-you-can-eat breakfast with yoghurt, fruit and good bread.

Rooms and Dorms

All rooms have private bathrooms, meaning you're steps from a hot shower. Each room has smartcard access (make sure you keep yours on you!) – that opens the front door and your locker, as well as giving you access to your floor. This place was awesome. Really more of an inexpensive hotel than a stereotypical hostel. By that I mean, it was very professional, very clean, and you are very free to either hang and socialize or just do your own thing and not be bothered by anyone, just as one would at a standard hotel (this is my own preference for travel). The location is great, the staff were super resourceful and the vibe was awesome. The best I could've asked for and for a terrific price. Would gladly go again

Was only in for a night, but super friendly staff and a good location made for an easy stay. I arrived very early and they let you store luggage before check in/after check out which is always great. Good bar area and nice spacious rooms with a good locker system.

Room and bathroom were a good size with lots of space. Facilities were good. You get a free drink voucher which is good. Pretty much within walking distance from most tourist sites and public transport very close. Staff were helpful with all questions that I had. Overall good stay.

    Fabulous

    02 Mar 2020
Really lovely location, easy to get to everything. A keycard was provided on arrival that locked the lockers. The beds were really creaky so every time someone moved it filled the room with noise. The bathroom was fairly clean, although quite old and the floor of the bathroom was very dirty, with black stuff and I saw a bug. The beds of old guests weren’t remade straight away and some were left dirty for days. Really helpful and kind staff with great facilities and many activities daily.

    Good

    28 Jul 2020
I stayed July 28th and 29th. The bathroom was not clean. It was an average hostel, nothing special. I personally did not feel comfortable in the beds. The room seemed outdated. The atmosphere was not very inviting because it was kind of dirty looking. Locking the lockers was confusing so I just stuck everything under my bed. The location is great! I would not go to another wombats if they are all like this.

Wombats City Hostel Budapest says

I think what's really unique about us is that this was a pretty good hotel before we upgraded it to a Wombats , so it comes with some amenities you don´t typically find in a hostel, like really big rooms, a/c, nice en suite facilities (even with hairdryers) and amply dimensioned common areas. It´s the biggest hostel in town, so guaranteed never boring. And the house is run by a really, really enthusiastic team.
We're one block from Andrassy utca (Budapest's version of the Champs Elysse), the main cathedral is just around the corner and the history city centre is a ten-minute walk away. Walk in the other direction and you're in the middle of the most lively nightlife area. Personally I recommend hitting Corvintetö, a superb rooftop club not far away. The langos shop next to the entrance is ridiculously good (and cheap), too.
Most of our guests are twentysomethings. Budapest offers excellent nightlife and is very cheap, so it attracts a lot of people who intend to indulge in it. Klaus, CFO Wombats
