Property Description

Wombat’s City Hostel London opened in December 2014 and definitely sets a new standard for hostels in the UK's capital. Only minutes away from sights such as the Tower Bridge, the Tower of London and the City Hall, it's an easy walk from the buzzing nightlife of Shoreditch and next to Wilton's Music Hall; the location is just awesome for young travellers.

Not only is the location awesome, the building itself is breath-taking. Formerly a seaman's hostel, the building was converted to an astonishing traveller’s place. Featuring a huge Bar, a courtyard, a cosy hangout area in the lobby and all amenities a backpacker could wish for.

We'll even give you a free welcome drink on arrival! Get to know fellow travellers in our courtyard, comfy lounge or cool cave-like bar. Or get chatting over board games, table football or pool. Arriving late? That's no problem – we've got a 24-hour reception.

Location

Our hostel is in a prime spot in Whitechapel, close to the famous Tower Bridge, Tower of London and the iconic Wilton's Music Hall. Save your data with our free city maps to find your way – we’re a short walk from Tower Hill, Aldgate East and Aldgate underground stations. (Useful if you're spending a day exploring vibrant Brixton or colourful Notting Hill.) Nearby Shoreditch has buzzing nightlife, trendy restaurants and coffee shops for that all-important caffeine fix.

Rooms and Dorms

All our rooms (private doubles and twins, mixed dorms and female dorms) have private showers and hand-luggage-sized lockers for stowing your valuables. Impromtu stay as we needed somewhere for the night at the last minute but it is hands down the best hostel I've stayed at in a London and will be back! Spotless, friendly staff, quiet rooms, free towels, comfy beds, a free drink in the bar! Perfect.

Stayed for 3 nights as my first part of a 6 week trip. Location is a little away (20 via train) from ‘main’ city area like piccadilly, the royal areas and westminister. In saying that, it has other attractions nearby like London Tower and Bridge so definitely stuff to see nearby. Rooms were cleaned everyday and quite modern. Beds comfortable. Good secure individual lockers in each room. Made friends whilst there, which was nice as I was solo traveler. Overall, nice place to stay.

    Fabulous

I loved this hostel, I thought it was beautiful and they had a decent amount of amenities for guests. It was easy to meet people and the staff was very kind, always offering advice and places to check out when asked. The only thing I would say is that they charged for certain things like breakfast and it wasn't very cheap :/ I didn't think the breakfast was worth paying for at all. Other than that loved Wombats and would stay again in the future for sure!

    Fabulous

I thought this hostel was well set up with plenty of space in the room I stayed in (6 Bed Female Dorm with Ensuite). Each bed had a powerpoint and a light. The bathroom was kept very clean and having the extra sink in the room was quite handy. My main comments (albeit minor ones) would be that the beds didn't have curtains and it was a free for all when choosing beds.

Great location and the place feels really safe. Love how the shower and toilet are in different cubicles as well as the availability of two wash basins. Room mates were awesome too! Would definitely be back with Wombats!

What a great location. It is super close to Tower Hill Station. The room and bathroom were clean and it felt safe. I did have an issue. I had to checkout early due to personal reasons. The first receptionist was fantastic, he was so understanding and even gave me a refund. when it came to actually checking out the second receptionist was rude and sounded like she was offended due to me having to leave early. It’s such a shame because otherwise it was a great stay.

Told the Scandinavian "gent" on reception, that I hadn't slept a wink and that the other people in the room had the same experience, because of the creaking beds, and because of this I was checking out early (it was around 6.15am, I had intended on checking out at 10), I also said I wanted to cancel my booking for Saturday because of this, he looked back at me with a blank expression....he then said he'd cancelled my booking but there was no refund, eventually after explaining he proceeded it.
