Hostelworld says

Wombats City Hostel was rated the most popular in Munich at the 2017 Hoscars and we're not surprised. This friendly hostel offers a lot of nice extras to guests, such as parking in the basement, a fully-stocked bar and a frequently praised all-you-can-eat breakfast. We particularly like the hammocks and bean bags in their glass-roofed courtyard, where travellers can relax even during poor weather. They're located just 10 minutes' walk from the Oktoberfest and most sights in the city centre, as well as near the U-Bahn and international trains at the Hauptbahnhof.

Property Description

Welcome to our comfortable Hostel in Munich!
We're just a stone's throw from the main train station which also serves as the major public transportation hub.
It’s not much further to the old town (5-minute stroll) and we're within walking distance to the Oktoberfest grounds.

Of all the hostels/hotels popping up in Munich this does the best job in combining style with location. ‘Past the glassed-in courtyard you'll find a friendly expat staff, pleasant if modular furnishings and private showers and toilets in every room.' (Lonely Planet)

We have amply dimensioned dormitories and most doubles come with their own terrace. We're especially proud of our air-conditioned, glass-roofed courtyard with real trees!

If you travel by car, we've got private parking too.
Please send us an e-mail for more information regarding car parking.

The five reasons why Wombats City Hostel became a destination in their own right are:

Outstanding cleanliness!
Unfortunately not something to take for granted but we do take this seriously: we've won Hostelworld's 'Cleanest Hostel Worldwide' award, twice.

Excellent amenities!
We're centrally located and close to the trains and public transport.
There's maximum security with smartcard access for the front door, the floors, the rooms and your locker. All rooms come with comfy wooden beds, a private shower, toilet facilities and lockers for your belongings.
You'll get a set of bed linen, a small welcome drink, Wi-Fi as well as our self-made city map with all essential information about the activities in town – all of which is for free.

In addition, we offer an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet (for an additional fee), yoga classes, internet terminals, laundromats, 24/7 reception service and our lively womBAR serving cheap drinks and food.

We're the hostel by travellers for travellers!
We've travelled the world ourselves - so we know firsthand about your needs and expectations from us. We care for you and your feedback.

Great social atmosphere!
We ensure that you will feel safe and welcome here. When you've been on the road all day, seeing sights and visiting museums for example, it's great to come back to a pleasant scene at the hostel where you can have some beers, talk and make friends. This will make your stay memorable! Many travellers stayed significantly longer than primarily intended.

You may well find a cheaper place to crash in town, but none where you get more value for your money.

We were voted the Best Hostel Chain Worldwide at the Hoscars on several occasions. We promise to keep it up!

We look forward to welcoming you!

Please note that you need to be at least 18 years old to stay in our hostel. View House Rules

Overview

Wombats City Hostel is your perfect travel base in Munich. And we've won awards to prove it, including Best Hostel in Munich (seven times!) and Cleanest Hostel Worldwide. Hang out in a hammock or snuggle on a beanbag under the glass roof of our air-conditioned courtyard and admire the amazing city views. Feeling peckish? Order food and a drink in the lively womBAR and get to know people from all over the world. Come morning, our all-you-can-eat breakfast is just what you need to start your day.

Location

The Hauptbahnhof (main train station) is a five-minute walk away, so we're easy to reach if you're coming by train, whether from another city or the airport on the S1 or S8 lines. Jump on the U-Bahn (underground) to get across the city quickly, and you'll be a 15-minute walk from the main bus station too. A short stroll lands you in the old town, where you'll find Hofbräuhaus, the largest beer hall in Munich (it seats 5,000 people!). If you're here for Oktoberfest it's just a 10-minute walk away.

Rooms and Dorms

We're serious about security. Our 24/7 reception means you can check in at any time, even if your flight's delayed. We'll give you a smart card to access the front and room doors, individual floors and lockers. Our mixed and female-only dorms, as well as private rooms, have comfy wooden beds or bunks. Every room has a private shower and toilet. Book a private double for a taste of the high life with your own terrace!

Extras and activities

We love handing out freebies: we'll give you bed linen, a welcome drink and access to the Wi-Fi, all on the house. When you fancy some downtime there are board games or pool on offer. Or if you're heading out, you can hire a bike from reception. Our self-made city maps will help you plan a route around the breweries and castles. Keen yogi? Join one of our yoga classes to balance your chakras.

This is so far my favourite Hostel. Friendly, helpful staff, lovely room with en-suite that was very clean. Atmosphere at the bar was great and the location was a short walk to the town centre.

Really great hostel. Great vibe and great location too. Just a hop, skip and a jump to central station. Had an amazing time there. Only thing is the WiFi isn't the best but hey you on holiday not here to be on your phone the whole time.

Huge building, younger scene. More of an anonymous than friendly atmosphere. Staff are helpful. Everything was fine for me overall, it was a place to stay and the bed was decent. I showered after 9am and there wasn’t any hot water.

The rooms are not really clean, my roomates found insects in the room, and beds are noisy. Plus, when i went there were no internet working in the hostel, they said they will fix it but they didn't for the whole 2 days.. I also tried Youth Europe which is like 50m away, and was much cleaner, cheaper, and amazing bar..

Wombats City Hostel Munich says

We're right next to the Old Town so all the attractions are close! The one place we definitely recommend that guests visit is the Hofbräuhaus, obviously. That's why everyone comes to town - but we'd recommend not spending a lot of time with a tourist trap. Munich also has one of Europe's oldest public parks, the Englischer Garten. It's twice the size of New York's Central Park, has a lake, a standing wave for surfers, a nude beach and no less than four huge beer gardens.
The main age group of our guests is 19 to 29, like in almost every other hostel. In contrast to these, though, we don't only attract one set of people. Quite a lot of our guests don't usually stay in hostels but give it a try at wombat's because we've been recommended. We've seen couples in their 50s, or families, and they were just as satisfied as the 19-year-old American college kid who spends most of his time, err, getting wasted at the hostel bar. The highlight of the Hostel is the 'Wintergarten', an air-conditioned glass-roofed patio with great design furniture to hang out and chillax.
