They're most frequently praised on our site for their helpful, friendly staff.

Finding us couldn’t be easier: we’re right in the middle of Mariahilferstrasse, Vienna’s main shopping street. In fact, the airport bus stops at the Westbahnhof, just around the corner. From here, you can reach the city’s must-sees in under 30 minutes. Jump on the underground, just 5 minutes away, and head to the historic Hofburg palace, before moving on to get a shot of the colourful Hundertwasserhaus building. For drinks and street food, head for Naschmarkt market – 15 minutes away.

Rooms and Dorms

We've got mixed and female-only dorms, plus single, twin or double rooms – all with en-suite bathrooms. Sheets and towels are included, so you can free up space in your backpack for extra clothes or toiletries. Safety's important to us: your smartcard will access the front door, the floors, the rooms and your locker (all rooms have free lockers for your backpack). And we take cleanliness seriously too: we've won the Cleanest Hostel Worldwide award. Twice.

Extras and activities

Go ahead and explore the backstreet bars of Mariahilferstrasse: our 24-hour reception is always open to welcome you back. In the morning, recover with our all-you-can-eat continental breakfast, or cook up your own in the shared kitchen. Free pasta, tea, coffee and spices mean you can save pennies for apple strudel later. After dinner, keep it lowkey with a game of foosball or pool in the lounge, or Google your next adventure using our free Wi-Fi.

Always love a wombats hostel! Security could be better (random man off the streets walked in to the bar and then started harassing the guests for hours) Other than that kitchen is clean the bar is nice and staff amazing

Wombat's is a really nice, clean hostel that's almost like a hotel. If you are a solo traveler though, I would recommend finding a smaller hostel as this one is huge and even with the shared kitchen, common area, and bar, people kind of stick to themselves and it's hard to meet people. The kitchen is nice and they have laundry on-site. It's about a 30 minute walk into the city center though, and even though it's near a metro stop I wish I had been closer to everything.

    Fabulous

Not a bad place to stay. Big, clean rooms with bathrooms attached. A bit far out from the old town but super quick on the subway! Just two downsides for me. It was very loud with people running around, shouting and screaming at all times of the night. The shower wasn’t attached to the wall so you had to hold it up yourself which is a bit annoying!

Really cool hostel and friendly safe. Good place to chill during the day and place for a beer in the evening. Room was a bit basic, but did a job

It is a great hostel, the room is kind of old, but it is not a problem. The staff is great. The 5 euros breakfest really helps ad the kitchen is well equiped. It should have at leat one guest computer.

    Fabulous

    17 Feb 2020
I found some staff amazingly helpful and some not that pleasant. The middle aged woman in breakfast that looks at you like your a criminal or in a concentration camp needs to stop doing that. Check people but smile you can do both. I didn't manage to get into a single conversation with anyone staying, maybe encourage opportunities for people to mix more as otherwise people stay in their groups. I'm a single traveller so it's important to me. Good on the whole and I would book again.

    Very Good

    27 Feb 2020
Want to say staff were lovely and welcoming and always had a smile on their face, location was good, on a busy street with lots of shops, about a 40 min walk to the old city but that’s all I was happy with. No atmosphere whatsoever, as a solo traveller it’s important to mix with others but it was very difficult to do so here unfortunately. I think more should be put in towards activities etc to build a better atmosphere and encourage people to mix.

Wombats City Hostel Vienna - The Lounge says

Most large hostels have comfy modern facilities, but are bland and lack in atmosphere. For us, it´s very important to only hire staff who knows what a hostel actually is, stay in them when they travel themselves and so know from firsthand experience what the guests expect. I think our hostel is ideal for anyone who think hotels are too boring of a place to stay. We have almost all the amenities you expect from a hotel, but a good hostel offers so much more.
We're right on Mariahilfer St, Vienna's biggest shopping Road, but the Kahlenberg Hill is my favourite place. It's the easternmost hill in the Vienna woods, still inside Vienna's city limits but in the middle of the vineyards, well connected with public transport. When the city is baking in the summer sun, there's always a fresh breeze up there, a superb view over Vienna and a café with good ice cream. Klaus, CFO Wombats
