Property Description

YHA Berwick has 13 bedroom, all with en-suite facilities, some of which are private and family rooms, a trendy café/bistro and is situated in a perfect location, close to the historic town centre of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Located on the quay-side, beside the river Tweed, the building has a unique lean - think the Leaning Tower of Pisa but on our own shores!

The Granary even has its very own art gallery so if you fancy soaking up some culture during your break, take a look at some of the exhibits on offer, from international artists as well as locals. Art lovers can also follow the Lowry trail which visits some of the sites immortalised in Lowry's paintings.

Steeped in history, Berwick has ramparts to explore and also offers some breath-taking views from its Elizabethan town walls. If you’re after a cycling break, Berwick lies on the Sustrans cycle route and so the Youth Hostel makes an ideal stop-off point.

We stayed in a 5 bed family room. The facilities were great - we especially liked the charging pods near to each bed. For 2 nights the price worked out at £29.50 each which was great value. The bathroom was big and there was lots of space for clothes and belongings. The staff were very helpful and it was near to all the great things to do and walks in Berwick Upon Tweed.

Overall, an interesting and well sited place to stay, but some problems: basin in room would not drain, only incredibly enormous frying pans in the kitchen, grill pans not big enough to fit cooker racks, dripping tap, no small kitchen knives. In such a modern and smart conversion inside an interesting old building, things in the kitcken looked a bit as if they had had some very hard wear! Good to have bistro on site.

Well situated and good atmosphere as cafe in the downstairs area. Bedrooms were fine and clean but a thoughtless dorm mate was blow drying her hair at 7am! Fabulous kitchen with lots of cookers and fridges and area to sit. Bit of a faff most of the doors locked so you have to carry your key and move about different floors. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
