My friend and our daughters have stayed in the hostel at Whitby a number of times and have always enjoyed our stay. Lovely and warm in the cold months. Staff are excellent. Would recommend taking your own pillow, theirs aren’t that fluffy. Would be good if they sold cordial for children’s drinks instead of promoting plastic bottles. (It had to be said) climate change!!!! The hostel has an interesting history. In my opinion has the best views of Whitby . Highly recommend.

Love this hostel so much, it's close to the ancient abbey ruins. So convenient to go to the seaside and hike to the abbey area. Very nice place, cosy, all staffs are so patient and friendly. Btw, there is a brewery near this YHA, those real ales are super crazy f**king excellent. If you pick this hostel, you must not miss there.

We had an excellent stay up on the cliffs. Our party booked a large room for several nights and enjoyed the hostel very much. It is in a beautiful, historic house with an incredible view of the town, countryside, the sea, and the Abbey. The room can be a bit noisy in high winds but it is possible to mitigate that. The only downside was that there is no laundry done at the hostel or anywhere nearby. The nearest place was about a mile away on foot.

This hostel is great, and in an incredible location. We were just really disappointed with our room. It was not as nice as was pictured. Only one bed had its own light, there weren’t many plug sockets, there were no coat hooks in the room, only two beds had lockable storage, there were chunks missing out the walls and it generally looked pretty scummy. Our room was also on a main corridor and we were woken at night by drunks, and kids in the morning. We had room a 4 bed en-suite, room 15.

Location-wise and the building, this is one of the best YH's I've ever stayed in. It is truly breathtaking. There are a few downsides but they are not so bad. On Friday & Sat nights it would seem, the place gets really booked up even in winter. This is likely because Whitby is a popular tourist spot and especially popular with hen and stag parties etc who love the idea of staying up on the hill by the Abbey and also of saving money against a more costly B&B or Hotel in town.

Perhaps one of the best YHA Sites in the UK well at least out of the ‘YHAs that I have been to. The only down side is if you don't have a car you need to walk the 199 stairs which might be interesting big you go out to town for a few too many drinks.
