Want the ideal base to plan your hiking adventures? Choose Zostel Kathmandu. You'll find us in Kathmandu's main backpacker neighbourhood, Thamel – the ideal spot for getting the most out of your trip around Nepal. We have a relaxed rooftop bar and a common room with a friendly vibe where you can get tips on trekking the Himalayas from other travellers. Worked up an appetite? Order food in our garden café or lie back in our supersize hammocks after a long day with your mates.

Our neighbourhood's brimming with travel agents who can advise you or help you book trips across the country. Or take a 15-minute walk to the Garden of Dreams to experience a slice of nature right here in the city. To get here from Tribhuvan International Airport, we'd recommend taking a 25-minute taxi drive, as there isn't a bus that goes straight to Thamel.

Rooms and Dorms

From both our private rooms and mixed or female-only dorms, you’ll have stunning mountain or valley views. Most have en-suites and all bathrooms have hot showers (which isn't always a given in Nepal). You'll have your linen included and a handy light next to your bunk, so you won't need to keep your neighbour awake if you're reading. There's also a security locker under the bed to store your bags in.

Extras and activities

With art all over the walls, our space is as colourful as the traditional prayer flags we hang up everywhere. We've got free Wi-Fi, so you can Skype your family before going off-grid to the Annapurna Circuit on a multi-day hike, and there's a washing machine to do your laundry in. After a full day of hill climbing, let off some steam in our cosy games room. Got time to explore the city as well as the mountains? Have a chat with the staff on our 24-hour reception about the best local sights, from temples to markets.

This is the best zostel I've stayed in. There is a really brilliant sociable atmosphere in the bar/restaurant so it was so easy to make new friends. The food they serve there is well priced and really delicious, my favourite was the momos! The rooms are well kept, very clean and gave very good AC. Would definitely return !

Spent a wonderful three days at Zostel Kathmandu. Very affordable rates, clean dorms with all the basic necessities in place and extremely helpful staff. That they have a lively cafe on campus is a great plus point. What’s more, it’s located right next to Thamel, the shopping and night life district of Kathmandu. Thank you for the wonderful stay Zostel KTM.

Excellent hostel in Kathmandu - really cannot recommend enough. Great location in Thamel, huge lockers, strong AC in the dorms (and it's available 24/7, unlike many hostels that will shut it off 90% of the day), hot showers at any time, and a nice cafe/restaurant on the first floor. The staff are really helpful as well. It's a great place to stay while you're based in the Kathmandu valley. Atmosphere isn't a crazy party, but it's very chill and easy to meet people, which is what I prefer.

One of my favourite hostels. Staff were lovely. Beds were comfortable and the restaurant had the nicest food. Walking tour to the monkey temple was fab. They also offer donation based yoga every morning. Would definitely recommend staying here when in Kathmandu. Such a great place to meet people and very near to all central locations.

Lovely hostel, the proprietor, and management make this an absolutely lovely place to rest, eat, and enjoy the company of other travelers. Whether you are traveling solo (like myself) or with groups, you are bound to meet wonderful individuals from all corners of the globe. The facilities are fantastic, they are clean, well maintained, and AC in rooms is a delightful experience after a day in KTM. All-in-all a great value for money.

Nice chill hostel with a great atmosphere. The downstairs cafe/bar is a great place to meet people, I ended up meeting my trekking partner/amazing friend here! Also the travel office there is an easy way to plan activities by only walking downstairs. Beds are comfortable and rooms are pretty clean. Would stay again
