About London

Elephant and Castle in the south London borough of Southwark, is a major traffic hub and an up-and-coming neighbourhood near the city centre and River Thames. The curious name Elephant and Castle derives from a historic coaching inn in the area.

The neighbourhood has seen major changes in the past few years with new homes being built and condemned spaces being transformed into community spaces, galleries and street food markets. With two universities in its heart, Elephant and Castle is a young area with cool bars and night clubs.

Elephant and Castle is in the proximity of main London landmark sites: the London Eye, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park are within easy reach either by foot or the tube.

Hostels in Elephant and Castle offer value-for-money accommodation together with nice amenities such as 24 hour reception and security, free wifi, common area with pool table and city maps free of charge.

The major traffic junction in the centre of the area connects the A2, A3 and London Road. Elephant and Castle has an underground station for Northern and Bakerloo lines, as well as a National Rail station served by Southeastern and Thameslink trains. Several London buses also stop in the area.
