A city centre hostel within close walking distance of everything: the beautiful old port and quay, cathedral, award winning shopping district and wonderful mix of pubs, clubs, live music, restaurants and cafe scene. We therefore attract the young and 'young at heart' and have the comings and goings reflecting a vibrant city centre. We will not suit those requiring a guaranteed quiet location, or young families.

We are 20 minutes drive to Exmouth with its 2 mile sandy beach; great for all sail sports, and the same to Dartmoor National Park; great for walking, rock climbing, cycling and horse riding. Exeter is also an excellent place to find work and just two and half hours by train from/to London.

The building is a Grade II listed Georgian building and we offer mainly dormitory style accommodation, single sex and mixed sex dorms available, and 2 private rooms charged based on double occupancy, with additional charges up to maximum of 3 people.

We do not offer en-suite facilities. We have private showers for our private rooms and shared showers for each dorm. We also offer a 24 hour fully equipped self-catering kitchen, separate TV room and social/dining area.

The hostel was not the cleaniest nor did things seem to be in working order. The other guests where much older (being in there 50's) and had a very suspicious vibe about them. I left after the first night because I was quite uncomfortible. Worst hostel I have been to.

It’s a homeless shelter that charges tourists to stay as well. Every room had a different awful smell. No soap anywhere. Sinks don’t work. They give you a key even though the door doesn’t lock and there’s a plastic piece blocking the door from closing. Bunk beds are for children and probably built in the 80’s. I’ve stayed in easily 100 hostels and this one took the cake for worst ever by a country mile. It’s like a relic from the time when hostels were all abysmal places.

Good location, friendly staff, questionable cleanliness. Not so much of a backpackers’ hostel, most residents were men, many older, didn’t feel very safe as female travellers. Hostel reeked of weed and not in a good way.
