About

Auberge de Jeunesse HI Lorient is a proud member of Hostelling International worldwide network.

The hostel is located by lake Ter, in a natural environment, perfect for those seeking a holiday off the beaten track. For those who enjoy swimming in the ocean, the coast of Lorient, Larmor-Plage, Ploemeur, Guidel-Plage, has around 12 miles of fine sandy beaches.

We are 4 km from the city center, the hostel is located in a protected area on the edges of the Ter pool and is 4 km from the beaches and the coast of Brittany. to see: the Erdeven and Carnac megalith fields and their prehistoric museum.

The hostel made by Roland Schweitzer, a French architect, an 'architect of materials', an architect of honest materiality (rigorous, slim, with-readable assemblies of concrete, brick, glass and wood)... is remarkable.

This hostel is in a beautiful location next to the River Ter I believe, although you'll need a bus from Lorient train station. I only stayed for a short while but would happily have stayed longer as the surroundings are so nice. The hostel itself is less flattering but adequate enough and reasonably priced. The breakfast was pretty good for hostel standards and there was no charge for a towel which was a bonus. The showers from what I recall were quite basic. That view though, magnifique!

The staff were very warm and friendly. They were very accommodating and helped me with finding my way around Lorient. It's a 15-min bus ride from the main train station and then another 10-min walk. The discomfort of the location was not that much of a bummer because the view from this place is really good. It's situated in a calm residential area right next to a lake.
