Puerto Alto Eco-Hostel
Located high in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Puerto Alto is a mountain eco-hostel with breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and surrounding nature. We’re the only place in the area offering paragliding flights, plus a great restaurant, bar, coworking space and an infinity pool with ocean view.
Join ecological walks with local neighbours to coffee and cacao farms with incredible views of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains. Join us in waterfall tours, sunset horse riding at the beach, surfing lessons, tubing, and fishing tours at the river.
📍 Located at Km 47 (Santa Marta–Palomino road).
From the entrance, it’s a 20–25 min uphill (steep) hike — we recommend wearing sneakers, hiking before 6 p.m., and being cautious on rainy days. Motorbike service available before the climb (until 8 p.m.) — or reserve yours at +57 313 511 8458.

The entrance of our port is located on the trunk road of the Caribbean, connecting Santa Marta – Palomino at km 47, lasting:
1,5 hrs to Santa Marta
30 mins to Palomino
20 mins to Tayrona National Park by bus or bike
30 mins to the nearest beach by foot.
How to get here?
If you are in Santa Marta, you can take a bus at the public market – Via Buritaca/ Palomino. You must get off at km 47 before reaching the village Buritaca. At the entreace you will find a boat on an arch with the logo of Puerto Alto. From that point you walk approximately 20 – 25 minutes steep uphill.
The Puerto Alto ecological trail is quite steep and can be very demanding depending on the amount of luggage and physique. We do not recommend it for the elderly or with any physical disability! We recommend arriving during the day, bringing hydration and sending your luggage by motorcycle (mototaxi hours until 8:00 p.m.). You can also arrange a mule ride a day in advance.
