About

The worst is behind.

When 2022 started, the fireworks at Copacabana beach announced the start of a new year. Nonetheless, for us it was hard to believe that the worst was behind. After two years barely functioning, the hope faded and the fireworks itself were not enough to make us believe that the year coming would be a travel back in time, our glory days.

In the end of 2023, inside the ocean, looking up to fireworks, we were then sure that the hostel was back to its full force, that we once again found our reason to exist. He is alive, Books is alive. Yes, dear backpacker, we are ready to have you here with us!

For all those who helped us to stay afloat, and you know who you are, thanks a million. For those who do not know what Books is, come and find out.

Party Hostel? Books Family? Community Center? It is hard to define what Books is, and surely there no idea about what it means to be. Books is like a house or a living organism, it mutates accordingly to those who are staying, intending to offer whatever is asked from.

If we have any consistency? Yes we do. Our basic services will be here no matter what. Below a short description of it:

- Included All you can eat Breakfast. From 8m to 10h30 we feed our hungover kids with eggs, juices, fruits and more. If you arrive before check in time you can have breakfast for R$15,00;
- Luggage storage for free, if you arrive before check in or need to leave after check out;
- A bar from 7pm to 11pm with happy hour (2x1 Dangerous Caipirinhas from 7pm to 8pm). Shy people deserve a chance to shine;
- Beer pong table and gadgets as long as you follow the rules (No game with water in the cup. Please do not insist);
- Room with air conditioning 9pm to 9am and / or when asked by guests;
- Organized Activities for the guests as hikes, football games and special days (St Patrick's, Kings Day);
- Good Wi-Fi in the whole building;
- Staff member from all around the world ready to give you advise about sight seeing, hikes, places to eat and more, a bed and / or another traumatic lost in beer pong;

All captained by Felipe, aka me, who is writing this, a person who is very motivated to provide a good time after spent two years scared that the place he love the most, Books, would close doors! Come here and, yes, have a great time. We are waiting for you without even know!

As said infamous Michael Risi: Books has changed my life. Come here and find out why!

Decent hostel because of the vibe but it is in such a sketchy location and I did not feel safe walking around. I would recommend not staying here and would suggest a hostel close to Ipanema beach.

Hostelworld says

If you're looking to explore the city centre, Books Hostel is a great base. It's located in the cultural and historical surrounds of Lapa, near Centro, two metro lines and Santos Dumont Airport as well as some of the city's most popular bars and weekend street parties. Guests tell us the "laidback but upbeat" staff create a quirky, relaxed, family-like atmosphere which is "very good for partying and getting to know Sta Teresa and the city centre and not just the beaches - and if you want some beach, just rent their bikes and do a trip to Copacabana and Ipenema". We like their cheap nightly caipirinhas.
