About

Here at The Old House Hostel we enjoy nothing more than to relax with our guests, make connections and share stories. Most evenings are spent chatting on the balcony with a small group of travelers from all over the world. We always seem to find ourselves wrapped up in many different cultures. Whether it be sharing stories of their adventures for the day or listening to someone playing the guitar; relax and forget about your worries. We aim to provide all our guests with an escape from your hectic traveling or work schedule and bring you a home away from home.

We are in the heart of downtown San Ignacio just steps away from the town center, great bars, restaurants and archaeological sites. A great location to get around town by foot or by public transportation. If you are looking to experience San Ignacio with fellow creatives then you found the right place!

Our old colonial house rests just above the foot of one of the towns’ main hills. Its many windows and large balconies provide countless amazing viewpoints of the charming town and its hilly vista. At the Old House we offer 4 large bathrooms; two full sized bathrooms on the main level and two additional toilet and large stone shower stalls with hot and cold water on the lower level. Our fully equipped kitchen is always available to our guests along with a small outdoor prep kitchen and grill on our back deck. You will find that our central common areas make for a great place to meet fellow travelers or to find a quiet corner to enjoy a book from our book exchange. Located just downstairs is the only live music and art venue in San Ignacio, The Belize Soul Project. The bar sells local wines, made in house and beers. If your lucky to be here on a Wednesday or Friday don't miss out on the fun.

San Ignacio is a small, culture-oriented town located in the mountainous Cayo District of mainland Belize. Its location is perfect for any travelers coming from or going to Guatemala and Mexico and of course travelers looking to explore the natural treasures Belize has to offer. With many amazing water falls, rivers, caves, Mayan Temples, animal life and unique experiences, everyone will find their reason to stay a little longer than expected.

Things to note: Bar can be heard upstairs, they open from 6pm to 11pm on Wed & Fri, on occasion Sat.
We have two lovely live in pets Roach the cat and Ragga Muffin the dog.

Interesting hostel in a good location. Very chill atmosphere. Kitchen was well equipped and clean. The showers were hot. Nice areas to relax on a hammock. The music on one of the nights downstairs was quite loud but finished at 11ish. Our dorm was right beside the front door with just mesh windows so was quite loud whenever anyone came in or decided to take a call sat out the front. Curtains in the dorms would be great. Lovely dog, bit stinky :) Cat was very entertaining. Overall great spot.

Check-in was cold—staff gave me the door/WiFi code and walked away. A few of us stood waiting, confused. Finally we asked to check in and then were told no. I asked to store my passport/cash before a tour but was told there wasn’t any locked place to store it. Came back one night to find two cockroaches in my locker. I picked old house as it was closest to town but you don’t need to be close to town. I ended up hanging at yellow belly majority of my time, as it was more social.
