Dazhong Backpacker's Hostel

The hostel is cheap but it’s also extremely unclean (our bin hadn’t been emptied, there were mint imperials all over the floor). There were mosquitos in the room constantly, we could hear rats on a night, the beds are memory foam mattress toppers on a plank of wood & the ladders are strapped on with sellotape. The cables in the room didn’t seem safe & the entire hostel STANK of crabs. There’s no sink or hand soap in the bathroom (which also looks like it hasn’t been cleaned since 1980).

Fantastic hostel to stay in Medan. Really cool owner. Great place to book anything you’re doing in Sumatra. Options for shared and private bunk bed rooms, and very good location close to nice cafes shopping malls and stuff.

I was disappointed after the good reviews. The host is great and very helpful. But everything is very old, I don’t expect much for the price but it didn’t feel clean. Room and bedding felt damp, big light shining through the room from outside at night, saw cockroaches in the room/bathroom.
