If you're staying in Kandy, stay at Asanka’s hostel. It’s in a peaceful spot, better located than the busy center and even closer to top sights. Asanka welcomed me with tea and kindness, creating the perfect place to unwind. Stay more than one night—his deep knowledge of Kandy’s history, passed down from his father, is unforgettable. Asanka is the man! I made the mistake of not booking the train in advanced and all tickets were sold out. Instead of getting an unreserved seat and fighting for a spot on the train or risking standing for 7 hours Asanka sorted me a last minute ticket with a seat! Very nice staff who helped a lot with information and advice, location was good for the train station and the botanical gardens! Unfortunately very few restaurants nearby. Hostel facilities were good! Breakfast was good!
