Lovely hostel in a fab city!! My two traveling buddies and I were very impressed by the hospitality of the staff. The building itself is a repurposed old family home with a courtyard, which gives the hostel a lot of character. Loved that the beds were comfy and not bunked. Location is great— right in the Old Town and close to the main pedestrian street and “creative district,” where we had an amazing meal at Pavaj.

BEST. HOSTEL. EVER. Room/bathrooms were clean, amenities were thoughtful (electrical sockets and curtains for every bed!), location conveniently close to train station, and best of all, staff were so fantastic. The woman who checked us in also helped us figure out our route (we only had a couple hours to spend in Meteora) with much efficiency and good humor. Then, when we accidentally stayed on the mountain too long and got lost and scared, she actually came to pick us up. We

Wasn’t expecting a lot after reading reviews, but this place is worse than I imagined. I was in a room on the 1st floor, and the drunken bellowing from the pub patrons made it impossible to sleep until at least 2am. There were multiple trash bags sitting in the corridor outside the room when I arrived, and the floors seemed coated in dust. Pluses: there are electrical outlets and reading lights for every bed, and bottom bunks get a little privacy curtain. All in all would not recommend.

Very vibey hostel in a good location for the budget traveller. As a general rule touristing Venice is expensive, but if you’re within an age range (18-28 or something like that), you can get a 72 hour bus pass for at a discounted price. The amenities of the hostel itself are good— every bunk has its own charging port and the bedding is comfortable. Downside is that no external food is allowed, as the hostel has its own cafe, but there’s a bar next door where you can grab a panini.

Castle Rock Hostel, Edinburgh, Scotland

Great hostel— VERY social, excellent lounges, plenty of stalls and showers in bathrooms, so you never have to wait. The free Thursday pub crawl is great (although there we didn’t go to a nightclub as advertised). The location can’t be beat— it’s literally across the street from the Edinburgh Castle, which makes finding your way home after a long night much easier. Only complaint is that the doors are heavy and loud, so you hear your roommates coming in and out in the morning and evening.

Thoughtful hipster-aesthetic hostel in a central location. The bunks are very sturdy, so you don’t notice your bunkmate moving around at night. Community-style bathrooms meant I never had to wait for an open stall or shower. The free breakfast is far better than most paid hostel breakfasts. Would stay here again if I return to Lisbon.

Great hostel. It’s a one bathroom per room setup, which means the wait can be long, and since my room was by the lounge it was a bit loud in the evening, but it quiets down by a reasonable time. The roof terrace is nice, as is the bar. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Good experience at Granada Inn Backpackers overall. It’s a fairly quiet hostel in a good location (less than half an hour walk to the Alhambra). The heating in the rooms isn’t the best—I stayed in winter and it was either too chilly or too hot—and the line for the bathroom is often long. I’m sure the courtyard is lovely in the warmer months.

Best hostel I’ve stayed at— location is great, rooms are great (each bunk has its own electrical outlets) and clean, lockers are large, staff are the friendliest, most extroverted people you’ve ever met. Would definitely recommend the hostel’s walking tour, but pass on the breakfast.
