Rotorua Central Backpackers

Only stay here if you have no other option! Completely empty for good reason. Nothing welcoming or comfortable about this hostel. Staff insist on a cash deposit for the key, with signs everywhere that they will keep it if you stay one minute after 10a, and it’s $2/cup of coffee. A book was wedged between my bed and the wall which would have readily been found if they re-made the sheets after the last guest. The windows in my room were large and waist high, without any screen, lock, or security.

Really empty hostel. Kitchen and bathroom were a bit dirty and quite dated. Staff weren’t unfriendly but they didn’t try to be helpful. Was told I could not store my luggage after checkout time.

Great location in the centre of town... showers were good, bed comfortable... Didn't see any staff during my stay, with the exception of checking in and being told I had 15 mins to check out to avoid extra charges..? AT 8:00 PM All the external doors were locked including the fire exits.... There would have been a panic had a fire broken out?...
