Property Description

We are located on the wild west coast of the south island, a great place to come and kick back and enjoy. We have 2 large kitchens, lounges, laundry etc. There is plenty of space for camping in a tent, a mix of different room types from dorms to ensuite rooms, we are just around corner from pubs and restaurants, supermarkets and shops. 20 min walk to the beach. Stay with us for 5 nights & Receive a free surf lesson with Board silly @ Bazils Hostel Surfing NZ Accredited Surf School, board & wetsuit included. Discounted board & wet suit hire any day you want to practice, Free transport to the beaches. We also have some great Mountain bikes and can arrange drop off & pick up to some great Mountain bike tracks. We have 3,4 and 5 bed dorms standard doubles an twins ensuite rooms that can sleep up to 6 people also have 1 very large rm that sleeps 10 that is often booked for large groups we have 2 large kitchens with everything you need even ovens, two large lounges lots of lawn space for lying in the sun with a good book and a large covered area for bike storage and BBQs Watch our Video on Hostelworld :-)

this hostels has the best possible vibe. staff are wonderful, facilities are clean, activities are offered. it’s the perfect place to just relax and enjoy the laid back, hippie esque, surf hostel vibe

this place is probably amazing during the summer when more people surf. you need to go outside for showers and toilets which would be nicer in hotter temperatures. lots of social space outside. the surf lesson was cancelled due to bad weather but i managed to book a private lesson with another provider.

A fairly nice hostel with a chill surfy vibe. I can imagine it being a really cool place in the summer. It was fun to hang out with the many woofers they have working there although we had to stop socialising at 10pm which was a bit of a bummer.

Lots of people living and working there, making it hard when we were there to meet other travellers. Really nice outdoor common areas, with hammocks benches etc. staff friendly and place kept clean.

A surfers hostel. Outside focused. There is only 1 inside area with a few couches, but the tv is there too. Only 1 inside table where you can eat. There are other couches&tables outside with a roof over it, but if its cold then not ideal. Also outside showers and toilets (like campside). The hostel is Kiwi-experience focused. Felt like they didn't inform other travellers about what was going (pizza night, campfire). A lot of younger backpackers (+- 22yo). Good if this is what you're looking for.

Looked nice, but not the best vibes. Owner reminded a group about the no drinking after 9, and then turned the lights off, even when others were not and being quiet. Then told us to go to bed at 1030, when there is no wifi in the room.

The hostel was okay for a nights stay, but wouldn’t stay here again. There were no windows in the dorm, which makes it really stuffy. The doors have to be manually locked and there were no lockers to put stuff in, so everything is accessible to everyone. The kitchen was very small, and people were cleaning and preparing their caught fish which made the whole place reek. Might be a good idea to have a designated place to clean people’s caught fish.
