Property Description
The Hub for travellers of the Amazon
Located between the famous Teatro Amazonas and Palacio Rio Negro, in the old centre of town, just two blocks from the city central park and one block from the main bus line, Hostel Manaus is the perfect base to explore the unique city of Manaus and to prepare yourself for the mysteries of the surrounding Amazon jungle.
Hostel Manaus is on Rua Lauro Cavalcante, a quiet residential street set back from the noise of the thriving metropolis. Here the weary traveller can recuperate from a long journey, relaxing in the beer garden with fellow backpackers or enjoying the view of the famous Palacio Rio Negro from our famous roof top patio. Staying at Hostel Manaus gives you a taste of local Brazilian lifestyle with all the convenience of being close to the action of downtown.
Hostel Manaus is a heritage listed site, built during the rubber boom of the 19th century. With its high ceilings and chandeliers, it boasts space for forty beds, communal kitchen and washing facilities. Dormitory rooms have just six beds for added privacy, some with air-conditioning and ensuite bathrooms. Private couple and single rooms are also available.
Hostel Manaus is operated by an Australian, and is the only hostel in the city center affiliated with the HOSTELLING INTERNATIONAL group. Also recommended by The Lonely Planet, Footprints travel guide, Rough Guide, Routard, and featured on Discovery Channel as the first youth hostel of the Amazon.
WARNING: Beware of imitations. To make sure you arrive at the ORIGINAL Hostel Manaus, look for the HI symbol and Australian flag on the front door.
At the airport and on the bus, travellers may be approached by tour operators offering 'information' on accommodation and jungle tours. Since Hostel Manaus does not recommend these operators to our guests, they may try to take you elsewhere. Dont be misled by false information. Come and see for yourself why the ORIGINAL Hostel Manaus is the best value backpacker accommodation the city has to offer.

Great value. Friendly staff, cool travelers staying. Facility was nice. Wifi was strong. Leaving my bags in their secure storage was awesome when I was out having an adventure. The bars right around the corner are actually really cool. The bed was a hostel bed, but good value overall.

I loved the hostel but the areas felt unsafe to walk around.

I arrived earlier than check in time and was waiting for check in. I asked the staff and he said check in time is 2. At 2 pm I asked him to go my room and he said he is still waiting for keys. And then he finished his duty and came other guy. Meanwhile I was still waiting for him to get keys. I was talking with other guest, and then the guy in reception heard it and showed me room. So ı didnt like it. Also not a social hostel at all. Location is not good and you have to do your own bed.
