Property Description

The El Zopilote Hostel and Permaculture Farm is a backpackers' hostel and permaculture farm that also cultivates mushrooms. We offer various types of accommodation including private huts, rooms, dormitories, camping areas, and hammocks. Our amenities include free yoga sessions, permaculture and mushroom courses, cacao ceremonies, volcano tours, massages, workshops, and numerous other activities. We boast a farm-to-table vegetarian and vegan restaurant, with a few meat dishes available daily, and on Tuesdays and Saturdays, we host a Pizza Night party featuring fire shows, dancing, natural cocktails, and fun. Thursday nights are dedicated to Italian Night, where we serve lasagna, eggplant Parmigiana, and tiramisu.

Located on Ometepe Island, Nicaragua, in the Santa Cruz/Madronal area on the jungle slopes of Volcano Maderas, we're just 2 km before Balgue. Our hostel is close to top attractions such as Volcano Maderas, Volcano Concepcion, and Playa Santa Cruz, among other notable spots in the area. The farm, situated 300m from the main road (a 4-minute hike), ensures a peaceful oasis...

Everything here is designed to blend seamlessly with the natural environment and promote environmental respect. Our wide range of accommodation options caters to various budgets and preferences. Except for the Mariposa Bungalow, which offers a bit more luxury with a private bathroom (compost toilet), all rooms are basic yet cozy, featuring shared compost toilets and showers. Some dorms are located a 5-10 minute walk from the reception area; details are provided when booking, with more remote dorms priced lower.

Due to our hillside location, there's always a refreshing breeze keeping our rooms naturally cool, eliminating the need for fans or air conditioning. We operate entirely on solar energy, and our well-designed compost toilets are odorless and produce valuable compost, minimizing waste. Additionally, we are committed to recycling all our waste.

Remember to bring a flashlight for navigating the paths at night; while our huts are well-lit, connecting footpaths remain minimally lit to preserve the natural habitat.

Its restaurant serves delicious meals made with fresh ingredients from the garden. El Zopilote: What a Place! There’s so much to learn and do here. From permaculture tours and mushroom tours to free yoga classes every day, contact dance, and breathwork sessions – it’s amazing. The huts are nestled in the middle of the jungle, rustic yet peaceful. Each bed comes with a mosquito net and locker. Fast internet is available everywhere, and there’s a nighttime security guard for added safety. For me, this is the best place on Ometepe, and it’s affordable too!
