Hostal Forestall is a solid choice for staying in Santiago. Conveniently located, rooms are clean enough, breakfast is decent, and security is great. Nothing amazing, but a good place all around.

Great location. My room wasn't anything special but luckily it was quiet. There are some annoyingly loud glass doors that lead to and from the outside stairs. I would stay in the same area again but perhaps not that hostel.
