About Faro
Faro is the southernmost city in Portugal and the capital of the Algarve region. It is generally considered to be more family friendly than Lagos and Albufeira and is a great place for a quiet retreat. You’ll love strolling the charming streets, sipping Portuguese coffee, and making your way out to the beach to soak up some sun.
Faro hostels are highly rated and have numerous options throughout the city centre, as well as along Praia De Faro. You’ll love the authentic feel and lovely décor that hostels in Faro love to create, and you should definitely keep an eye out for terraces, pools, and amazing lounge spaces!
Whether you’re looking to be as close to the beach as possible or would prefer to be in the heart of Faro’s old town, there’s a hostel with your name on it. Faro is a small city that can be walked around in about 30min, meaning that any of the central hostels are in a great spot to experience everything Faro has to offer. The beach is a mere 20min bus ride from the city centre, so you won’t be missing out on that either. If it’s just the beach calling your name, then you should check out the hostels along Praia De Faro to be steps away from paradise.
One of your first stops in Faro should be to the narrow cobblestone streets of Old Town. There are plenty of places to grab a drink or some food as you admire the eclectic architecture. Faro also has diverse wildlife that is best viewed on a guided nature tour or you can just head to the beach, kick back, and hope to catch a glimpse of the various bird species while you soak up some rays. If you fancy some exercise grab one of the rental bikes from your hostel and enjoy the pathway along the coastline.
The EVA bus system is a private service that runs throughout southern Portugal and is your best bet for getting around. Trips between cities can also be done by train. Faro is not overly bikeable, but it is small enough that walking is not a big deal and will actually enrich your experience! There are several different taxi and shuttle services to choose from if you prefer to travel that way too.
