About Valencia
The picturesque port city of Valencia offers backpackers the perfect combination of rich history and culture, and sightseeing and relaxation on one of the many jaw-dropping beaches that the city has to offer. Backpackers from around the world flock to Valencia, especially during the summertime, to explore the city.
You’ll find a range of Valencia hostels from budget to modern chic, so there’s a Valencia hostel for you! Rooftop hostel bars with city views, sociable common rooms with paella cooking lessons, and there’s even a fancy hostel within the train station. Many of the hostels have cafes and bars, so get to know your fellow travellers over a coffee or beer. There are standard dorms, female-only dorms and dorms with en-suites, not to mention plenty of private rooms too.
You’ll find Valencia hostels offering many experiences in different locations, you can stay in traditional barrios or choose a beachfront base. For the main historic sights, live music and great coffee shops choose the Old City (Ciutat Vella), with many options to stay nearby. An area that’s rapidly turning into the coolest neighbourhood is Ruzafa – so get your fix of vintage shops and gin bars here! Or pick the marina area and experience the vibrant nightlife and modernist architecture. A park runs almost the entire length of the city, so you’ll almost always be close to nature wherever you stay.
While you’re in town be sure to stop by the Jardín del Turia Gardens, where the locals enjoy running, skateboarding and cycling. A great way to discover and learn about Valencia’s rich history and culture is to visit the Cathedrals and Museums – The city of the Arts and Sciences is one not to be missed! The famous La Tomatina festival is also held at the end of August every year in Valencia and sees backpackers coming from all around the world to partake. Valencia is also home to the narrowest building in Spain - tapas bar La Estrech. While you’re in town, a day spent exploring Valencia’s picturesque beaches is a must too!
Public transport around Valencia offers backpackers a great and affordable way of getting around the city, especially as it’s relatively small in size. Getting the bus around Valencia is not only a cheap option for getting around, but it’s also a great way to see the city’s sights as you travel. Valencia also has an underground transport system with air conditioning which offers a comfortable way of travel during the hot summer conditions. There are also trams that service the city and are useful for places the metro doesn’t service. Alternatively, walking around the city is a great way of exploring and getting to know the city. If you’re arriving by plane, it’s easy to get from the airport to the city centre, either taking the metro, or the even cheaper option: the bus (25-30 minutes).
