Hostelworld says

City Garden Lodge is located in Parnell, Auckland’s oldest suburb, near Auckland War Memorial Museum and about 25 minutes’ walk from the city centre. There’s also quite a number of buses running regularly in the area. This cosy, relaxed hostel is set in a house with a large backyard, a well-stocked kitchen and helpful, friendly staff. It’s a great place for getting to know your fellow travellers. We like their rather useful library of travel guides.

Property Description

We're located one district away from the noisy city centre. Why stay in concrete jungle when you can be surrounded by trees, lawns and birdlife? Best of all, you'll still be a five-minute walk from the best restaurants and cafes in the city.

We offer FREE UNLIMITED Wi-Fi at check-in.

Check out our deals tab above for our special 25% off Winter Special deal!

Our very quiet and clean hostel features a fully equipped kitchen with lots of free herbs, spices and sometimes home cooking.

There's a log fire to heat the common areas and rooms have their own heating as well.

A 24-hour shuttle service to and from the airport is available.

It's no wonder we're consistently rated as one of Aucklands top hostels! We were rated the sixth-best hostel in New Zealand at the 2012 Hostel Awards and we've received excellent reviews in Lonely Planet, Hostel World, Trip Advisor and Rough Guide.

Check-in time around 11am but if you arrive early you are welcome to free coffee and tea while you wait in our comfortable lounge or relax in the hammock on the sunny veranda.

Sorry but out of consideration for other guests we are not suitable for children.

This hostel forgot the meaning of traveling and what its like to call a hostel your home. There were bedbugs and the room was messy, furniture broken and smelly. The common spaces were impersonal and the kitchen equipment was not properly working. It may not seem like a lot but with the amount of money they must make just based on what we spent for a night, they could do better.

Most comfortable hostel in Auckland I have been to so far. The house is kind of old but that adds some character to it and makes it more feel like a home. A lot of community areas/places to relax all over the place (small and big ones). Beds are ok, nothing special but clean, just installed new showers but the old ones are fine as well.

Great big old house transformed into a hostel. It is dated and would need a good deep clean. Upstairs showers had great pressure. Reception hours are a little weird, closed from 12-4pm everyday so keep that in mind for arrival times. All in all pretty good experience and location!
