Property Description
The Empire is an old favourite amongst backpackers. We are located in the CENTRE of town, near the information centre (i-SITE) in the Historic (Victorian) Precinct. We are well-known for being clean, warm and friendly.
There are 2 lounges, one with a large screen TV and a log fire. We have heaters in the bedrooms and endless hot water. Other facilities include: 3 computers kiosks, WiFi (access via a hotspot), pool table, piano, off-street parking, and... a video library!
We are part of the Historic Precinct and a 15 minute walk to the Blue Penguin Colony. Make sure to visit Steampunk Headquarters and Annie's Victorian Tea Rooms - there is more to see in Oamaru than the guidebooks tell you.

Cozy, quiet hostel at the end of town, near the beach and Victorian quarter. Not super accesible but very well kept!

Fine hostel. Only stayed for a couple of days. It seems to be an old building and is decorated a bit old fashioned, but I felt really comfortable. Staff was really nice, and offered to take people on a walk to the pinguins, which was really fun.

the beds were rock solid. fridges need a deep clean. no one was in reception when I arrived or when I wanted to ask about luggage storage. young lad who was staff was nice but his manager was fairly unfriendly. not much choice in hostels to stay in oamaru so was worth it to see the sights but did not enjoy my stay here. the only positive were some friendly people
