Property Description

Chill Out Bar and Bungalows is a family-run resort in the jungle, just a 5-minute walk from Tonsai Beach. It has a rustic and authentic vibe, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and wildlife. As the resort is in the tropical jungle and only reachable by longtail boat, it makes us unique, and the facilities limited.

WIFI in the evening only, in the public areas.

Chill Out Bar and Bungalows, has a chilled vibe, with many platforms and a big community space to hang out in, and do activities, like practicing yoga, performance art, and slacking. Sit, relax, and enjoy nature, from the wildlife to the amazing views of the rock face and tropical jungle.

We are in the jungle, below the towering limestone cliffs, and each bungalow is uniquely decorated. Our Thai-style bungalows have tiled flooring throughout, and a bedside table. The room has mosquito nets on the windows. (if you want a net over the bed, please ask at reception)

The bathrooms are a mix of Thai and Western styles, with a sink, flushing toilet, and refreshing cold showers. Every bungalow has its own balcony.

All resorts on Tonsai are run from generators. Our electric times in the bungalows are 6 pm to 6 am Nov-May and 6 pm-3 am June to Oct. We have WIFI in the public areas only, at the electric times.

Chill Out Bar and Bungalows is a hostel with international l customers.

Hang out at the bar or in the garden and meet the community, travelers, and climbers. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, learn new things and find climbing partners, play board games, read, and exchange books.

The onsite restaurant sells authentic Thai food and some Western dishes, and there is a "real" coffee shop.

The climbing shop is next to the reception, where you can book a climbing course with an experienced climber who has been climbing the limestone cliffs for years.

If booking for a large group, please speak to the reception or bar staff, to organize a fishing trip, BBQ, fire show, and party for your group.

Please understand that our bungalows ARE in the tropical jungle of South East Asia, there are different bugs and animals to see. Please be aware of this.

We recommend that you bring good mosquito spray; the mosquitoes come at sunrise and sunset, during this time it's good to hang out at the beach, and a small flashlight as electricity is limited.

Tonsai Beach is only a 5-minute walk from the resort. Following the concrete path, you will go past a massage shop, mini-marts, and restaurants.

Tonsia and the “Railay” Peninsula, is unique for its laid-back vibe with “World Class Rock Climbing” Rock climbing is a popular activity on the towering limestone cliffs. If you have never done it before, it will be a great experience.

Tonsai has high and low tides, it changes 2 times a day, by an hour each day. At low tide, you can walk to the neighboring beach Railay, you can walk around, on the rocks, or over a small jungle path, both take 20 minutes. If you do not want to walk or want to go at high tide, you can take a long tail boat over.

You can walk from Railay West Beach to Railay East, with caves to explore, the viewpoint and the lagoon. Then head over to see the famous Princess Cave, on Pra Nang Beach.

Diving, snorkeling, and kayaking are very popular in the area and we are also a gateway to many islands, the closest being only half an hour away. You can explore other islands, including Chicken, Poda, and Hong Island.

Tonsai Beach can only be reached with a longtail boat. We are surrounded by cliffs; there is no way to get here from the mainland via car or walking.

You can walk around Tonsai in about 20 minutes, everything is within walking distance, from mini-marts to restaurants and the beach.

If you wish to go to Railay West, Railay East, or Pra-nang Beach. you can walk at low tide, over the rocks from Tonsai Beach to Railay West, then you can explore, Raialy East and Pra-nang Beach.

At high tide, There is a jungle path you can also take. You climb some stairs that will see, on the rock face before you see the pathway this takes 20 minutes. There is a longer hike up through the jungle and down to Railay East which takes around 40 minutes.

If you love trying something new and like a bit of adventure then this could be a fun challenge for you.

You can also take a longtail boat over to Railay if you don't want to walk or it's high tide. Private boats can be 300b-400b depending on the time of day or night.

If you wish to do activities on the Mainland, Ao Nang, or Krabi town, I recommend you stay on the mainland. Otherwise enjoy Tonsai for its beauty, wildlife, Cliffs, Rock climbing, and the activities we have to offer.

Tonsai Beach can only be reached with a longtail boat.

We are surrounded by cliffs, there is no way to get here from the mainland via a car or walking.

Take a longtail boat from Ao Nang Beach over to Tonsai Beach. 100b per person, the boat waits for 8 people before leaving. The ticket office is open 7am-6pm. If coming after 6 pm, there will be fewer people waiting and you might need to pay for a private boat, which can be 800b-1000b.

Once on Tonsai Beach, please take the path on the left-hand side of the beach (if looking into the jungle) You will see a red hut, where the longtail boats are parked, follow the path up into the jungle. We are on the path, in the middle. We are a 5-minute walk from the beach.

In Stormy weather, you may need to leave from Ao Nam Mao pier. The boat will take you to Railay East. From Railay East, you can walk directly to Railay West. 10-15 mins, from Railay West on the right-hand side of the beach, at low tide, you can walk over the rocks from beach to beach. It around takes 20mins.

Super good vibe and lovely people, if you are a climber! There is no AC in the dorms (but there are fans) and the beds were squeaky. The staff is lovely so when we asked them to fix the beds they did. The surroundings are beautiful as well.

Really lovely chilled spot, 5 minute walk from Tonsai beach and about 15/20 minute jungle walk from Railay beach. Room was simple with a decent on suite, quite a jungle environment so be prepared, but we quite liked that! Definitely not spotless but definitely not dirty. We were here in June which is very quiet, not much atmosphere at all and the area is still clearly recovering from the pandemic, but that’s just the reality of it all and we were more than happy to spend our money on places that needed it! Front desk staff were lovely, the place is beautiful, climbers will especially love it. Thank you for a calm and comfortable stay Chillout! :)

This place definitely serves its purpose, which is to be a pretty affordable hideaway for climbers to rest and recoup between big climbing days on Tonsai. My girlfriend had stayed here 3 years ago and said it was great but on arrival we found it had got a lot more run-down than it clearly used to be and was in considerable disrepair. The shower didn't drain well and the mosquito screens and nets were all damaged. The laundry service ruined several of our clothes. Staff were really nice though.
