There aren’t a ton of hostel options in Nagano, which was why I chose Mash. Overall I had a suboptimal experience—the beds were pretty hard and uncomfortable and the staff gave me a weird feeling. There was also no real common space (aside from a tiny lounge with two tables on the third floor and a little section of the restaurant sectioned off by screens on the first floor), so it was near impossible to meet other travelers and find a place to hang out.

Decent western food and drinks on offer, good common space, large and spacious dorm rooms. Close to train station.
Atmosphere wasn’t hugely sociable which was a shame, but a solid choice for visiting places around Nagano

Super weird concrete empty rooms, not a great vibe, but it’s a small town and not exactly bustling. The pods were spacious and comfortable
