Uncle Nicolai's Hostel

Welcome to Uncle Nicolai's Hostel & Inn and the Copper Rail Depot Saloon, an interior Alaska seasonal inn & hostel, open from Memorial Weekend through Labor Day weekend.

This property is reminiscent of the mining camps that are now a part of Alaska's pre-World War II history. It is 3 1/2 hours road travel time to/from Anchorage and/or McCarthy in Wrangell St. Elias Nat'l Park; 4 1/2 hours to/from Fairbanks; 2 hours to/from Valdez. We have the best prices for overnight stays in the Copper Valley with very clean well-maintained accommodations. Our private rooms are for groups of 2 or 3 persons and include continental breakfast*; Our rooms are dog-friendly. *continental breakfast may not be available during start-up in late-May-early June.

You will find your check-in information on the card rack just outside the bar door, including an access code for your room door and the lavatory-shower rooms as well. This will serve as your remote check-in, enabling you to enter your assigned room any time from our normal check-in time of 4PM until however late you arrive at our facility. You need not alert us if you will be late because you code will await you at the card rack. Check-out can be as late as noon. Simply leave the room locked as you leave and we will take it from there. Food is available on site at night in the bar. You must be 21 to enter the bar. Food is also available as take-out at lunch time and early evening; laundry is available in women's shower room. All private rooms have fully-made beds with DishNet TV, WIFI access; and coffee in rooms. All rooms are shared bath. We are adjacent the Klutina River and just upstream from the Copper River, known for its Copper River Reds (salmon). A hiking trail goes 25 miles up the Klutina River to Klutina Glacier and Lake. You may also charter to raft this river if you so choose. Contact us for more information once you have reserved a room with us.
