1849 Backpackers is located in the heart of Albany, only a stones throw away from Albany harbour, best cafes, boutique shopping outlets, nightspots and restaurants. Coach/bus services 5 minute walk away.
We offer private rooms for couples and families and also shared dormitory style accommodation, all with shared bathroom, laundry & kitchen facilities which are cleaned on a daily basis. Our large commercial guest kitchen downstairs has two gas cookers/ovens and cookware, several fridges/freezer & pantry for your convenience. Free pancake breakfast is available in upstairs kitchen for all every morning.
Other common areas include our large BBQ area in the front garden and our recreation area downstairs is complete with dart board, table tennis and pool table as well as an outside soccer pitch which is next to our guest car park.
Friendly staff and a great place to stay and meet new people while enjoying all Albany has to offer.

Upon arriving, we was informed that our room wouldn't lock along with the hostel door being open during the day this left all of our belongings at a higher risk of being stolen. inside our room was filthy along with multiple occupants smoking marijuana inside the room until the very early house of the morning. We ended up checking out 4 nights early ass we was both uncomfortable and concerned for our safety. We have never received our deposits for the keys and cutlery set either.

Checked out a day early because I couldn’t handle another sleepless night. Paid for a private room and despite having a whole wing of vacant private rooms, they put me down where all the dorms are and where there is a club downstairs.
They lock the common room at night but provide a bench in the corridor for drunks to congregate and people to Skype overseas relatives at all hours right outside your bedroom door.
Showers are like something from an old prison and the bleach smells putrid.
