Property Description
1849 Backpackers is located in the heart of Albany, only a stones throw away from Albany harbour, best cafes, boutique shopping outlets, nightspots and restaurants. Coach/bus services 5 minute walk away.
We offer private rooms for couples and families and also shared dormitory style accommodation, all with shared bathroom, laundry & kitchen facilities which are cleaned on a twice daily basis. Our large commercial guest kitchen downstairs has two gas cookers/ovens and cookware, several fridges/freezer & pantry for your convenience. Free pancake breakfast is available in upstairs kitchen for all every morning.
Other common areas include our large BBQ area in the front garden and our recreation area downstairs is complete with table tennis and a pool table as well as an outside garden + pergola which is next to our guest car park.
Friendly staff and a great place to stay and meet new people while enjoying all Albany has to offer.

Good value for money versus other options in Australia however considering we just travelled the whole of Southeast Asia, this is the most basic we have stayed in. There is no security lockers as an FYI. There’s not the best atmosphere with people staying long-term it felt like we were infringing in their space and had to be out of social areas by 10 o’clock. The bunk beds were children’s bunkbeds meaning if you were anything over 5 foot four, you would not fit and extremely uncomfortable.

Disgusting hostel!!! Do not stay here. I would rather sleep in my car!!! Big stain on bed sheet and then dried blood on duvet cover! Reception was closed so I couldn’t ask for more sheets!!! Still awaiting a full refund for this revolting place but of course they don’t reply to any emails or calls. DO NOT STAY HERE - I have backpacked for the past 2 years across the world and this is by far the worst hostel ever. Druggies everywhere and they make you feel uncomfortable, everywhere is dirty too.
