Guesthouse“Kamejikan” is located in old Kamakura area and only 250 meters away from the sandy beach where you would enjoy a nice morning walk and beautiful sunset, as well as surfing and swimming in the summer.
The 88 years old wooden house originally built as a residence for a wealthy family renovated into a guesthouse in 2011.
The carpenter was specialized in temples and shrines which reflects throughout the building with similar characteristics including a large shrine inside.
“Kamejikan” means “turtle time” in Japanese. The name was given in hopes that the guests would spend relaxing time here and remember the slow flow of time in the old days. You would enjoy staying at the traditional Japanese wooden architecture in the quiet neighborhood in Kamakura surrounded by some old temples away from the tourist area.
We welcome you to visit us at “kamejikan”.
All rooms are Japanese style, a room for 2 persons, a room for 4 persons and 6 beds in a dormitory room(mixed gender).
Air conditioners are furnished in all the rooms.

Overall a very good hostel. The staff was very sweet and the location was so nice. Only thing that could be better was some storage for luggage.

I’ve been to multiple hostels and this one was by far the worse. If you are above 5’ 10†you’ll have a hard time walking through the place with out hitting your head, and you will not fit in to the beds. Turns out on Saturday you will get kicked out of the commons area from 6 to 9 so they can be a restaurant and it will be loud that whole time. Then they lock their doors at 11pm (23pm) so you need to be back before then or you are locked out. Overall horrible place.

You have to pay for towels, the water that they say is filtered is normal tap water, and you can only pay in cash. Overall, it was okay but the Japanese standard is definitely higher. I would not recommend staying there.
