AlterNative Hostel offers its guests a convenient and comfortable location at the corner of Calle Larga and Avenida Huayna Capac. The former is Cuenca's main hotspot for bars and restaurants, and the latter offers fast and easy access to the local airport and bus terminal. We are within walking distance of the historic center of Cuenca, and the Museo Pumapungo is just a few footsteps from our doors.
We provide fast 24-hour WiFi in all rooms and common areas.
Our hostel has hot water 24 hours a day.
In addition to the hostel's shared kitchen, we offer a special discount for breakfast at our specialty coffee house next door, as well as a full all-day menu.

Xavier is very friendly and the staff are well communicative.
I was especially thankful for their patience as we are practicing our Spanish. The staff was great at answering all of our questions about local tips. They spoke Spanish and English with us according to our ability to understand. It was great!
The architectural spiral design inside and the natural light make this a really great spot to see inside and out in Cuenca. They have plenty of common areas including a balcony or two.

About a 15 minute walk to historic center where all tourism is except the museum that is directly across the road from the hostel. Generally clean and quiet place, not a party hostel by any means but we met nice people! The bathrooms (combo toilet and shower) could get wet and dirty but they’re cleaned at least daily. We weren’t given a key to our door and it also didn’t shut all the way? Enjoyed our stay!

The main hostel member of staff was really friendly. Showers were great. There are lockers and laundry services. The rooms weren’t super clean as there was a lot of dust under the beds. The hostel itself is really well organised with clear signage and looks modern. The place is about 15 min walk from the centre.
