Hostelworld says

Flying Pig Uptown is located near Leidseplein, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, and is also next to the large Vondelpark, a popular relaxation spot. We like that this hostel has a bar and smoking area downstairs and is ?very close to bars and the tram stop?, according to our guests. Several visitors have also told us they appreciate the homey atmosphere, which feels ?more like hanging out in a friend?s house than a hostel?.

Property Description

As the original Flying Pig hostel, we can't wait to welcome you again!

We're located perfectly central in-between the museum and fashion district, the Vondelpark and Leidseplein, where the best concert-halls, clubs, bars and coffee shops are and most locals go out. You'll get that real Amsterdam feel and are still close enough to the red light district, which is only a 25-minute walk.

The Pig has been world-famous for its laid back atmosphere, with a hostel bar that everyone keeps talking about and friendly, helpful staff. We have a guest kitchen and an indoor smoking area where you'll meet plenty of fellow travelers. This lively bar has regular event nights, the cheapest beer in town and daily drinks specials!

Almost every bed in our dorms has a reading light, (including both our single and queen-size bunk beds) and free individual lockers in the rooms (bring your own padlock or buy one at reception for 5 EUR.

The Flying Pig Uptown provides free linen, free use of our reception safe for small valuables, free Wi-Fi, a book exchange and munchy food for sale! There is a continental breakfast available every morning for just €8 a day (€7 if booked on check-in) which can be purchased at reception on arrival.

This spring and summer you can enjoy Amsterdam's famous green grass in the beautiful Vondelpark, right outside the Flying Pig Uptown. Enjoy some drinks, smokes, or have a picnic. You can also check out the free musical and cultural performances on the park stage or play games with your (new) friends out on the open grassy areas.

If you're in for some culture, the Van Gogh, Stedelijk and Rijksmuseum (with the 'Nachtwacht') are just around the corner, same as the beautiful Concert Building. Do you want to explore the Red Light District, some historic sites or Chinatown? Just take a stroll - everything is within walking distance. Public transport is close by, too.

But there's always more: go shopping at one of the local markets (such as the Albert Cuijp in the Pijp area) or the 'Nine Little Streets', drink a beer at the Amsterdam Heineken Experience or have a wild night out in the pop temple Paradiso, within crawling-home distance.

We're open 24 hours with night security and no curfews or lockout. Access is by keycard.

Please note that the Flying Pig has an age restriction; we welcome guests from above 18 to the eternal young at heart! We do not accommodate anyone under the age of 18 years. A form of Photo Identification is required upon check in. Accepted forms are a valid passport or national ID card. Driving licences are NOT accepted.

Please read our Things To Note below. We only accept groups of up to 10 people through Hostelworld and our maximum length of stay is 7 nights.

It was clean for the most part and the staff was friendly but the bathroom smelled terrible the entire time and there was no heat in our room. I have never slept in a room so cold and for the price of this hostel, I don't feel that it was worth it.

The only negative thing I can really say is that the property location is a but far from the centre as its about a 30-40min walk to most other hostels and other solo travellers meaning it was always great to have a charged phone to navigate home. Public transport is good but you still need your phone to look at timetables.

Flying Pig Uptown says

I think that one of the best things about this hostel is our smoking area, because let's be honest....a lot of people come to Amsterdam to smoke! But if you don't like to smoke you can also have a great time at our hostel. We have a bar and we're really close to the famous Vondelpark, Leidseplein (the entertainment area), Museumplein (Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum) - so if you want to go out and shop, eat, drink, visit museums or find a coffee shop, everything is just around the corner. Personally I recommend that visitors go for a stroll around the 'Nine Little Streets', called '9 Straatjes' in Dutch; they're great for shopping, food and drinks and nice views over the canals. For fun we have daily free walking tours and pub crawls as well as great drink specials all day, every day. Our main age group is young travellers who like to meet new people and party, chill or do both!
