Property Description
Okayama Hostel Igusa used be a Minshuku (Japanese traditional inn) with a beautiful Japanese garden. We renovated this 50 years old folklore house to a guesthouse.
The hostel is Located in the beautiful countryside with great access to cities. Igusa Hostel is only 5 min walk from JR Hayashima Station, which is 11 min by train from JR Okayama Sta. where Shinkansen trains stop. We offer 3-5 bed and 2-bed Japanese style private rooms and 5 bed (3 futon beds and 1 bunk bed) male and female dormitory rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) flooring with air conditioner, heater and free-WiFi.
Bathrooms, shower facilities, Kitchen are shared. There is a common area where guests can relax and enjoy the nice garden view.
Igusa Hostel has also a great access to JR Uno Sta. (Uno Port) where the ferries depart to Naoshima, Teshima and the other islands in Seto-inner-sea. The Hostel also has easy access to Kurashiki Bikan historical quarter, Okayama-city, Hiroshima and Shikoku.

・Please avoid arriving between 11:30 and 16:00 and after 20:00, as the door is locked and you will be locked outside.
・Reception is open until 20:00 so if you don't come by then, your booking will be no show cancelled but if you have a reasonable reason you won't make it in time and inform us by 20:00, we can wait for you until 21:00. In that case we will charge you ￥500 per 30 min. though. (No charge for the delay caused by a public transportation accident）

It was a very relaxing, quiet, and comfortable place to stay. Mr. Ishi, who runs it, is a lovely guy. I planned to stay for just 2 nights on my way to Naoshima Island, but I ended up staying longer, enjoying the garden, & working remotely.

If you're looking to stay in a traditional style place near Okayama, this is a great choice. The staff were very friendly and the place was very clean and quiet. It was very beautiful to stay in.
The station is a short walk, but just make sure you know when the train is coming or you could be waiting a while.
Keep in mind, you are essentially sleeping on the floor, so maybe not recommend if you have back problems, etc. Otherwise, it's a great experience, and I would recommend it.

What a beautiful hostel! The best thing about this hostel was the absolutely beautiful garden and building, and the traditional tatami-style rooms. I recommend having your morning coffee/tea by the window and just taking it in. Staff is friendly and helpful, location is close to the trains although trains don't run too often depending on time of day and the area around the train station is pretty residential.
Definitely would stay here again, wish I had been able to stay longer!
