I had an amazing 3 nights at Catch the Ella Train Hostel. The hostel is located in a nice neighborhood within walking distance to the botanical gardens, and a short tuk-tuk/ taxi ride to Kandy city centre.The beds were large and comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and always clean. The hostel is run by such amazing staff who were always available to help with anything you need. Asanka, the host, organised an amazing tour of Kandy and served an amazing breakfast each morning.

we were more than happy with our stay in asankas hostel! we learned about buddhism and enjoyed spending time with him. besides cooking the best breakfast he showed us some hidden gems and really good food. and the name is true. thanks to him we were able to catch the ella train and had even a seat!

Asanka and Harshe were the best hosts!! I stayed 4 nights and felt very at home. Take time to join Asanka’s whistle stop tour of candy, slowly enjoy the beautiful surroundings, temples, hike Hathana mountain…there’s so much to enjoy! If you ask, Asanka will teach you about all the amazing plants growing in his garden, Sri Lankan folklore and history, and maybe take you for the best ice cream! A wonderful host who deserves a sold out hostel every night! ✨
