I have stayed in hostels in more than 50 countries, and Goodbye Lenin is in my top 5. It's a log cabin teeming with charm and character - completely antithetical to the cookie cutter chain hostels that plague Europe. The staff are all volunteers, and because they all live in the hostel, they are tight-knit and extremely warm and inviting. They are personally invested in making sure that the home - and it truly is a home rather than a former block of flats or hotel - is clean, safe, and cosy. The common area comes alive at night with laughter and community! Also, it's SO nice to be situated an hour walk out of the city (the bus goes directly to the hostel, however) amid pine trees. Very peaceful - but a short walking distance from stores and restaurants (and trail head access just across the road). Try the zurek from the restaurant just across the street! To the staff - you are all incredible; thank you for making my time in Zakopane feel like being with family. ❤️
