Staff was helpful if the question/request were easy, but did not go out of their way to find or give information

It was fine. the bunk beds were a bit ticketty but overall for the price it was fine,.

I have stayed with u in the past in your dorms.Which were good for the money. However this time I stayed in a private room. For 55 dollars. On the web site it said television. None. There were no towels or soap. I did laundry there for 9 dollsrs and they gave me the clothes back 2 hours late and not even folded. The night person not rude but not real helpful either. There were no drinking glasses and he sent me to bar. Bar person not friendly and wouldnt get me any. I was very disappointed

Some of the staff was excellent, some seemed a little overwhelmed or confused. Could be a timing thing where everything hits at once. Overall it was a good stay.

You're overpriced at $50/private

food was too expensive but the coffee was great. You should empty the trash in the rooms daily if nothing else. it wouldn't hurt if you put a few hooks on the walls to hang clothes.

The first room they put me in was right next to the road and I didn't get much sleep, which really sucked after all the traveling I did to get there. Then they moved me to a room that didn't have else tric outlets that would work. Part of the time the hot water didn't work either

Good hostel for no more then one night either for arriving into or leaving from Costa Rica. Free airport shuttle was nice. The location leaves something to be desired. Woke up early in the morning to find a prostitute passed out on the sidewalk in front of the hostel. Staff was friendly enough but did not seem interested in providing any information to my questions other than a yes or no. Restaurant/Bar was nice and food was great. Tried to order breakfast the morning I left but had no luck.

great staff, nice room after we finally got one open. the swipe key did not work at all for the first room and it was iffy on the second one. nice place over all.

We enjoyed personalized shuttle service. Great! A big WOAH! for breakfast: so much fruit and also banana pancakes! And our young waiter was so friendly! However cleanliness for linen in private bedrooms should be improved (sheets and towels) And not enough furniture to sit down for breakfast, we had to find chairs and sometimes arrange tables ourselves.

The bedroom was absolutely freezing and the window in the room would not shut properly. The blind was broken and could not be pulled down.

This was obviously not a five star hotel but, as a hostel, provided all the basics that I needed for a good stay---clean sheets, clean room, conscientious staff, nice 4th floor view. I will certainly stay here again if I come back to CR and recommend this to any cost conscious traveler.

The staff is probably the least helpful and friendly in Costa Rica. Everywhere else staff has been excellent, but here they had an attitude about any questions asked. I would not recommend this place based on that alone. There are other options is the area that are better. I plan to come back to Costa Rica a lot, but I will not come back here. It is very well designed.

Even though I paid a deposit online, the hostel didn't have a record of my reservation when I arrived. Same thing happened to a woman who arrived just after me. They accommodated us anyway by converting a dorm room into a private room and charging us for a private room, which was fine, but when we got into the room it smelled overpoweringly of mold, emanating from the bathroom, which was so strong we didn't dare shower. They let us use another bathroom and reduced our rate, but yuck!!!

Hostel more like a hotel, doors have electronic locks, rooms don't have lockers. The neighborhood is not safe and no restaurants besides fast food chains are there so all meals must be had in the hostel restaurant, which in fairness isn't too bad.

Located extremely close to the airport, with convenient shuttles and access to public transportation. Rooms are relatively clean, bathrooms have hot and cold water. Rooftop bar and 3rd floor tv room has a great view. Staff customer service lacks enthusiasm, and needs to be prodded to give service, but compared to many other hostels in the area, it seems to be the best value and prettiest option.

The front desk staff didn't seem very helpful in regards to suggestions of things to do and places to eat. Also, the website states free shuttle to airport but when we went to set this up we were told it didn't run after 10:40 am. Our flight was at 5pm. That's all well and good but should be stated on the website.

iThere was a problem with our reservation. We booked a room online through their direct site. When we arrived at the hostel there was no record of our reservation. We had a copy of it in our email but the internet was down. We had already paid a certain portion of the reservation but because there was no record we had to pay it again. In addition, we were informed when we arrived that there is a 10% fee for using a credit card to pay for the roo

Alajuela backpackers is near the airport, so many people are just passing through. Rooms have only 4 beds. Some of the rooms windows open onto an internal atrium, which makes them very dim and not well aerated. Rooms near the front of the hostel look over the street and have better air flow. The bar upstairs has good, but expensive food, the internet is free, and it's a decent place to stay although not always easy to find others to hang out with.
