Alice Lodge is a self check-in property — there is no reception desk staffed on site.

Instead, we use a fully automated, 24-hour self check-in kiosk, so you can arrive and get into your room at any hour without waiting for staff. This is also how we keep our rates among the lowest in Alice Springs: the savings on front-desk staffing go straight into cheaper accommodation, without cutting corners on quality.

Hostel it is completely unstaffed as far as I saw. Most guests were longer stay so it didn't feel as social though they were nice. Communal areas need a deep clean. The kitchen never had any clean and dry tea towels and there was a dead cockroach in the kitchen window for the whole of my stay. My room was very clean apart from fridge. Regular mouse in my room through a hole next to the door. I respect the hostel choosing not to use poison though sealing the hole might help stop mice coming in.

Alice Springs is all about the outdoors. It's surrounded by the Ilparpa Swamp wildlife protected area, Emily and Jessie Gaps nature park, Joint geological/geophysical reserve, and West Macdonnell national park. There are also plenty of smaller parks within the city that are perfect for hanging out or having a BBQ. The Kangaroo Sanctuary is a great spot for anyone looking to learn about (and feed!) one of Australia's most iconic animals. For souvenirs, stop off at Yupu Napa Art Gallery to browse some contemporary indigenous art and other handcrafted works.

Alice Springs has a train station serviced by Great Southern Rail that runs between Darwin, Alice Springs, and Adelaide. Getting around Alice Springs is easily done by foot. There's also a network of bus services that can get you wherever you need to go. Travelling around outside of the town is best done by renting a car in order to have the most flexibility possible.
