I chose this hostel because I had an excellent stay at America del Sur in Buenos Aires, and was not disappointed. Staff are friendly and super helpful (big thanks to Patricio who helped book all my tours). Great common areas and activities that make it really easy to socialise with other travellers. Great breakfast that starts early so you can eat before you go on your tours (the staff even organised breakfast for me before a tour that left at 5.30am!)

Excellent hostel, staff were really helpful. Lockers in room big enough for day packs. Comfortable beds and nice bathroom facitilites. The bbq at the hostel is great.

Really great Hostel, Great Staff! The Best meal we had in Argentina is the BBQ run each night by the Hostel! Absolutely brilliant, they serve a range of sides etc in addition to the great Asado meat. The staff were absolutely brilliant - organised tours and buses and even a night in another hostel in El Calafate in the middle of our stay with them and added it to our bill! Great common area and brilliant view

From the moment we walked in to America del Sur we liked it, the whole place has a really cool vibe, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and our room was clean, warm and comfortable. One of the bigger hostels we have stayed at, almost more like a small hotel in a lot of ways, but still very cool. BBQ dinners and the large community areas were nice, the only downside was compared to everything else breakfast was a little bare. We would definitely return though.

a little bit of a walk from town, but nicely situated. was an advert saying lunches sold for 35 pesos but when i wanted to buy one in the morning was told there weren´t any because the chef wasn´t there (take the advert down if they´re not available!). el calafate is a long way from anywhere, would only advise a visit to those who are very keen on hiking, climbing and looking at glaciers! bus travel this end of argentina is expensive, arduous and time consuming!

This is a good hostel. the common area was pretty comfortable and the staff are really helpful for organising activities and airport transfers. the breakfast was pretty sugar loaded, however, so if you don't like sweet things for breakfast, consider buying your own in advance or going out for breakfast.

amazing character, good location, a little bit expensive for the rooms. YOU CAN GET SAME OR BETTER ROOMS FOR LESS PRICE, i paid more less for private room in another hostal and was amazing.

Great Hostel. Very friendly staff and nice, social atmosphere. My only complaints would be the location (but they do have a sweet view because of their location) and the fact that they kept it about 27 degrees in the hostel; kind of a shame with all that free air conditioning right outside.

Located near to the main town it is easy to get to from the bus station. We stayed in a private shared bathroom and were put in a seperate building to the hostel. This unfortauntely meant that we were isolated from the main vibe of the rest of the hostel and didnt meet many other people. It seemed quite over priced for the facilities however we did stay in high season. The staff are really helpful and help arrange all required trips. Not sure i would stay again.

fantastic view of the lake and mountains from common areas. great, helpful staff (including with tour bookings for the glacier, el chalten, etc), decent breakfast, good wifi in the spacious/cozy common areas, BBQ option for dinner each night, decent kitchen, five minute walk from town. recommend.

Good hostel, nice architecture with an upstairs lounge and space to chill other than in the bedrooms. En suite dorms but there are also showers close to the lobby. Great idea for travellers leaving early who do not want to wake everyone up in the dorm ! Very helpful friendly happy staff ! Excellent BBQ / asado option available nightly. Only big drawback: the kitchen is so small that it looks dirty within minutes and fridge is a nightmare. Most tours leave conveniently from the hostel.

Not as good as BA hostel but still above average. Staff is extremely helpful with everything including tour/bus bookings. After returning late from El Chalate (to pick up bags, etc) there was no room so they let me sleep in the loft for half price. Liked the hostel so I ended up sleeping the loft for 3 days instead of looking for another hostel. Breakfast is average.Only bread/cereal and coffee. Juice is tang. Could add some fruit and yogurt. 10min walk from town, has nice hillside lake view

Good place to stay, excellent friendly staff who will help with bus bookings etc. Rooms aren't great for the price compared with the rest of Argentina but el calafete is generally much more expensive. Not a bad place to use as a base, and a decent common area

The staff of the hostel is very helpful and the bathroom is clean, but there are some aspects to improve: 1) Wi fi barelly works, and the computers are old and very slow; 2) The kitchen is very poorly equipped and full of flies; 3) The place is too far from downtown and it is in the top of a hill; 4) They say that they have barbecue everyday, but it not true. In three days, just one night there was barbecue. I arrived from a trip at night and they said I could not eat because I had not booked, b

Loved it! Cool setup and great launching pad for activities. We were there for 3 nights and had a great time. Josefina (Josie) and Patricio were both very helpful setting up tours. America del Sur was also great about emailing excursion options in advance of our trip and giving their perspective on which tours were more adventuresome than others. The BBQ was great and it was a relaxing environment in which to meet some cool travelers.
