excellent purpose build hostel, very helpful and generous staff.
It's a bit out-of-the-way (and a decent trek uphill from the town center), but once you make it there it's fantastic. Cool common-area layout and very lively.
The Hostel is quite big, so maybe not the best deal when you're looking for a familiar place. But everxthing else was perfect. Clean, good facilities, superfriendly stuff which helps you for every question you can have. Enjoy the eyes of Andreea while she's exxplaining something to you ;)... Alex
Very nice hostel with friendly staff. Good views of the town and lake as well.
Cannot fault the location, cleanliness, and friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was really good with lots of food (mostly bread based). Beautiful view across to the mountains. Only complaints were it was too hot in the bedrooms and wifi only worked in communal areas.
The Staff were amazing and so helpful. Rooms were nice and clean, top bunks are hard to climb due to the steps being at the end but if thats the worse thing in the world it really isnt that bad. Loved my stay here!
Top hostel in a good location. Great friendly staff that make you feel welcome as soon as you arrive. Easy to meet people and the breakfast is good too!
Really easy to meet people here, friendly atmosphere. The landscape around the place is inspiring. Location is good, not too far from the center. Not all, but the majority people from the staff are always smiling and willing to help you out with info and booking the tours. I missed a previously booked tour due to the terrorific Aerolineas Argentinas and they managed to postpone it (without extra-charge) with the agency, using a certificate of the delay I had. Kitchen filled with flies is a no.
Felt like home. Not sure why I've read about loud music, we're old and didn't find the music loud at all. Perfect selection and a perfect volume. Could try to do something about those kit hen flies though??
What else can I say? Everything was fantastic in this hostel, right from the more than friendly and welcoming staff to the most lovely of locations. Thank you, America del Sur Hostel! Special thanks to Natalia & Matias. Sydney, Australia
Very nice and clean hostel with great atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff.
The one thing to point out here is the great staff. They are very friendly and helpful. You can book all the bus tickets and tours you like and don't need to run around El Calafate. We went to El Chaltén and returned to El Calafate to take the bus to Ushuaia. Because of that we had to wait from 9pm to 3am the next morning. The hostel was so nice to let us stay in the common area although we had checked out 5 days ago.
Really friendly and helpful staff. Great location- you do have to walk up a small hill from the centre but it is lovely with a view through the large windows and upstairs mezzanine balcony. Great breakfast included in the price. They make it sio easy to book everything. Kitchen is very small when everyone is trying ot cook. Roomks are stanbdard dorms with nice ensuites. Lovely and cosy with good atmosphere for meeting people.
Great lay out, open plan chillout area with view of mountains and lake- stunning. The rooms are fine and clean and mostly ensuite i think. Only issue is that its away from the main throng, but still only a 10-15 min walk so no biggie. Definitely recommended.
It was a neat set up and friendly staff. Incredible view from the hotel. However there was constantly loud music playing so you could never just relax on your own and there was no Internet in the rooms. There was also a fly problem-- you can't sit anywhere without having to constantly shoo away the flies. The kitchen was also very gross, the sink would get clogged easily, so dirty dishes would be piled up high in the morning which didn't help the problem with the flies.
Thanks girls (and guys) for your wonderful help! You are the best! We really had a nice time! Next time we'll try to be a little bit more prepared for our excursions ;-) Greetz from the boys with the 'dog food' candy :-))
Staff are all very helpful and friendly. The excursions proposed are good and we have a really good time there. Our room was clean and they tidy our bed and change our towels everyday, we haven't had it in any other hostels. Well done guys, keep it up !
Beautiful view (I'm not sure it can get better)! It's a little on the louder side with the music which might be good for the right crowd. They were fabulous in providing information about the area and booking tours. Go through them - it's cheaper than booking on your own. They also let you keep an account and pay for most things at the end. The staff were phenomenal - always friendly, social and in a great mood! We would recommend this place and would stay again.
Had an excellent time here. The staff were amazing, very helpful, organized several tours for us which were all great, they went above and beyond (e.g. did an extra-early breakfast when we had a 5am start) and they all seemed to know who we were - impressive in such a big hostel! Easy 5-10 minute walk from town centre. Would definitely stay here again.
I thoroughly enjoyed both my stays at this hostel. The staff are friendly, helpful, and very good at helping you make the most out of El Calafate. The rooms are nice, with lockers for each bed. The baths and showers are in separate rooms, with sinks between, in a suite-style dorm room. I stayed in only the 4 person rooms, but they, and the common areas, were always clean. The breakfast is generous a worthy consideration if you like to eat. Wi-fi in common areas ONLY. Engaging guests of all ages
