About

Overview

Folk Hostel is a place created by travellers for travellers; that’s why every part of it is practical, comfortable and clean. Being fresh and modern, with spacious, comfy and sunlit corners, the place invites you to travel both indoors and outdoors. The team is made up of young, enthusiastic hosts, knowing the region in detail, ready to provide you the options that match the experience you’re looking for. We’re Hostel life lovers and we’re eager to share a neat and pleasant community experience with you, based on respect and coexistance.

Location

Located in one of the most southern spots of Argentina, El Calafate is more than the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park. It’s a lively tiny Patagonian city, surrounded by nature and packed with attractive bars and restaurants. Folk Hostel’s placed in a strategic area: a quite rural, chill-out neighbourhood, with views to the Calafate Hill, within a 10-minute walk away from the shops area and 200 meters away from the Bus Station, with groceries and drugstores nearby.

Rooms and Dorms

We offer varied room types, covering all needs and budgets. Shared dorms, of eight and four people, are equipped with super comfy mattresses and bed linen, huge lockers to be latched with your own padlock, and individual lights and sockets. Shared bathrooms, of dressing room type, are fitted with showers, washbasins, hair dryers and toilets; they’re practical and spacious, thus avoiding congestion. For the ones who prefer some privacy, there’re private rooms with shared bathroom, at an excellent price-quality ratio, and private ensuite rooms, equipped with bathtube, hair dryer, towels and complimentary toiletries. The facilities guarantee free hot water use and the adequate water pressure even at busy times of the day, meeting all our guests’ needs.

The underground heating keeps the temperature warm and homogeneous in all the areas, while windows let the light and fresh air in. In long summer days, the black-out curtains keep the light out and are vital for your pleasant rest.

Extras and Activities

We receive worldwide visitors, what generates a multicultural exchange spirit that spreads all over. The inner courtyard, shaltered from the wind and landscaped with native Patagonian species, is the place where to find a haven of relax and enjoy the sun, some good reading and vibrant company, or where to play the grill chef.

The shared kitchen is open for cooking from 12 to 23hs, and it’s wide and well-equipped. There’s a “Free Food” zone to encourage the food conscious use; you’ll find all the items to tag and store your goods, and differentiated containers for source waste separation and its later reuse and recycling. Display and discover your cooking skills, and feel free to inhabit the place!

As we know the destination demands energy and great enthusiasm, we begin the day with a varied healthy and nutritious home-made breakfast, in which each traveller is responsable for the cleaning of the used kitchenware.

The services we offer cover all your needs during your adventure in Patagonia: box lunches, drinks, tickets and excursions purchase, laundry service, transportation and touristic information. We’ll be a pleased to host you!

We’re working hand in hand with local authorities and other Hostel establishments, developing protocols to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ll soon be ready to hosting you!

Exactly what we wanted in a hostel, excellent location, great breakfast (best we’ve had for free travelling), good facilities in the room, comfy bed, extremely kind and helpful staff. Common areas are also always nice and relaxed, not a party party hostel.

Kitchen was amazing, that was the main highlight for me. Rooms were ok and always clean. Not much atmosphere though but I went in the low season but I think it is good in high season.
